Have been looking for a good best and can't find one that's decently priced with the accessories I want. So I'm making one! More to follow.

What is the best to be used for?

Fine question. I should imagine that determining the purpose will guide the creation.

Well, I wanted a good all around sportsman vest. Mostly, it will be used for shooting sport and hunting. On the right front flap, I will sew on some elastic webbing to hold probably 25 12 gauge shells, and an accessory loop up top. Left flap will have two pockets. One to hold spare shells as well, or whatever other items the day's adventure requires. The back, will also have a layer sewn on in Hunter blaze orange, to fit game birds in between.

As I gain progress I'll post more.

Btw, this vest cost me roughly 20 dollars to make. A sight cheaper than anything comparable in duty, as well as durability.

I certainly admire your willingness to make what you want. That's the way advances in kit are made that benefit all of us. I will certainly be watching with interest as you progress. I'm not at all handy with needle and thread, so I would be a disaster at this. Should be neat to watch this unfold. Best of luck on this project.

Thank you! I do appreciAte it. Though, I'm ok with needle and thread, it requires half a six pack and at least 5 bursts of profanity. But the overall vest came out nice. Now it's just adding the stuff I require!

Love it! Profanity, beer and needles... (y)

Ya, if you can make a good hunting vest for $20, that's GREAT! I spent a fair bit more than that on this "Browning" vest I bought last year for upland game hunting:

It is a good, sturdy vest though, and replaces a lighter version I'd worn out after a decade or so.

Looking forward to seeing the end results of your labor!

Regards, Guy

Don't know if needles and beer are a wise combination. Sounds a bit like rifles and booze--sure to generate some fireworks.

Lol no I leave the boom sticks alone when theres booze involved. 3 beers over couple hours, I was pretty confident that I wouldn't sew a finger to my new vest

For ideas look at the Cableas backpacker vest. Been using mine for about 17-18 yrs and it's going strong. Like the backpack to carry my coat and sweater on the walk in and liver and heart on the trip out if lucky!

Well. Its not 100% done, but done enough for opening day tomorrow.
