This rifle was only made from 2006-2008 and has a .740 # 3 contour blued non fluted barrel with tan spiderweb paint on a non fiber guard stock! looks like a fiber guard but it's plastic? I have seen one at GB but they want way to much for it as it is more expensive than a NIB rifle is by over 100.00 bucks? Want 1 but not that bad :)

This is the exact rifle I was speaking about and it's a plain Jane Vanguard with a bull barrel and sorry that got left out and thanks for your digging as it is appreciated! This is an uncommon rifle and I would pay the 599.00 if it was a NIB rifle but it is not and I am sure this rifle will not sell at that price as Bud's sold their last rifle for 488.00 and they have always been lower than most everyone! Once again thanks for your time :)
Link below is rifle I am looking for!

Thanks Dr! I am not much on the S2 but for less than 100.00 bucks it could be an option as I found another one at Cabelas for 529.00 at Mitchell, SD fine gun room that has a much higher serial number and looks like it's in much better condition! I always change triggers as Timney has ruined me so a new S2 would probably be best route? I like the tan with black Spyder web stock but this old rifle seems to be plastic and not a fiber guard. I think the new triggers on the S2's are just not for me as when I pull the trigger i like for the rifle to fire and not count to 10 to wait for it to break! Hate the 2 stage trigger pull myself! Not too keen on colors o the S2 stock also? I know I am picky and I was also looking at a Mark V SVM used as I really like a fluted # 3 contoured barrel like an Accumark barrel? Decisions are fun!

I'd buy a new S2 and try it for a while before swapping triggers or anything else. Some guys have painted the gray "non-grip" area of the stock with success if the color bothers you. Else a Bell & Carlson is about $225.

Most of the tan/black stocks you see advertised are just painted versions of the old plastic stock and nothing more.

Dr. you are probably rite as Timney said the S2 Vanguard trigger would not be available until first of the year as they have a S2 and are in the process of creating it! By the time I buy the older version and pay shipping and transfer it would run close to a new S2 anyway! I would like for someone to flute the barrel for me but it would have to finished and that would run up,the price on fluting? Rifle would probably be ok with out flutes anyway!

Almost any gunsmith will tell you not to flute an already finished barrel, so I would not waste much time dreaming about that one. :) There are some who have adapted the older Timney to the current S2 as I think the only difference is the fastener.

I would find an S2 near you and see if you like it.

It depends on how the barrel was made. If it is heat treated before the process or after. Why some don't do it after the barrel is finished is that it is possible to bend the barrel and no longer make it straight and true. Pac-Nor does the fluting last before it is shipped out the door. I took a tour of there facility and its sweet!

Sportsman's is only decent retailer near me and they only carry generic S2 calibers and nothing special since they went thru financial issues a few years back? No Varmint Specials but it's not like I am in any hurry for another rifle but always keeping my eye open and I could end up with another Accumark as they are sweet off the shelf rifles. Sent my 9MM slide to Trijicon recently for some night sights over in Wixom, Michigan :) Is that close to you part of the woods Dr. ?

Nope, that's 2 hours east.
It's a western suburb of the Detroit area. That's like another country over there.

I am no metallurgist but am a Mechanical Engineer who spent 40 years around and in charge or Toolrooms, Machine and Model Shops (medical and toy). You can shake and bake a barrel to stress relieve it or even cyro it to make it stay straight. I would not take the chance cutting flutes into that barrel and having it remain straight within original spec. You might get it but why bother?

Solved the issue on the 223 as the Gunshop would not come off their high price :) I found a rare Mark V Super Varmint Master in 22-250 and put a Zeiss 6-24 Conquest atop it!! Need some range time and I will post some results!! #4 Contour 1-14 twist and hope it's a tack driver ?

Yeah, that'll work. I do like the 22-250, and that one should serve you well.

My load for my 22-250 is 39 gr CFE 223 with a 55 BT and WLR primers at 2.400" shoots 5 in under .25". Nice rifle.

That is a tight shooting tack driver and I will save that load info for load work up ! thanks but finding CFE223 has been impossible!! I do have Varget, BLC-2 & H380 so I should find something that will work! Also have 100 new Lapua brass to load :)
