I am looking at a rifle purchase. Narrowed down to a Remington 700 either in a stainless fluted or the XCR.

Any experience or thoughts on these?

Stainless fluted is pretty dang sexy!! My buddy has a XCR and they don't look bad but I reallt don't see the point of putting a weather resistent coating on a stainless rifle. If you take care of your guns weather should never be a problem. I believe that you'll more than likely end up spending the same amount of money (or pretty close) for either rifle.

If it were me I would go with the stainless fluted for sure.

What caliber are you looking at by the way?

Long,

The SF is a nice rifle, that would be my pick.

Get a Sako or Tikka. The new ones 5 shots under MOA.

long,

Sweet caliber for sure..... how many does this make for you ?

I'd have to say stainless fluted as well.... more options to improve on the stock if necessary.

Now on a second note... you could keep your 7-08 case with a slightly smaller dia neck  and do a .260
I still see some limited edition 700's out there that are stainless fluted...

This would be my 4th in 7m-08. BUT, I only keep one at a time. 1st one was a Browning Stainless Stalker-sold it to one of my brother in laws. 2nd was a Rem CDL w/ blued barrel-sold to my hunting buddy as he wanted a lighter recoil rifle a/c back surgery. Both of these were real good shooters.

The one I have now is a Sako, beautiful rifle. But I cannot get it to shoot regularly under an inch. I know, I know, it is not a big deal for a hunting rifle. But I have 4 other Sako 75's (2 of my own and one for each son) and they all shoot better than MOA with my loads consistently. But with my twisted mind I can't stand not having a rifle that I cannot get to shoot as well as I think it should. I don't think it is me since all of the other rifles I have no problems with. Many different loads, light trigger, totally free floated from the factory etc...so one last try this week and if no success......trade bait. I gotta say it hurts because this rifle, to me, was my all around dream rifle. The perfect rifle in the perfect caliber.

long,

Sorry to hear that, that stinks ! Those Sakos are beautiful !

I hear you though. I have a safe full of Remingtons and one Sako in 6ppc. It's the safe Queen other than my wife shot her first deer with it.

It's a matter of priorities.
I've had both rifles . Not in 7mm-08 which I do have in a Rem. Mod. 7. Beyond the caliber the choice is accuracy versus weight. The stainless fluted is more accurate but more heavy. Now my experience has been with the Sendero. I know some of the new models don't have as heavy a barrel. The xcr is light, fast and the stock is more ergonomic with the rubber gripping surfaces. I had the fluted Sendero and sold it because of the weight and went with the xcr. That's because in my use I will hike 15 to 20 miles a day to not see an elk so weight is the big factor for me.
Buy what you like  That always works out the best.
Good Hunting

Why not rebarrel the Sako? I've never had a Sako that wouldn't shoot under MOA either, so that is confusing. I couldn't ever trade a Sako based action for a Remy action. If you are going to trade, my vote is for the fluted stainless (if nothing else you will look good out there)! Still playing with loads for the .260 Remy limited edition (now bedded and floated), so i'm not sure you will find what you want in the SF rifle either.

I would get the sf it is a beautiful rifle and if one feels they need more protection there is always teflon coating that can be done and at less of a cost than the xcr which I think all you get is the coating and rubber inserts above what you get in a an sps

by the way dont be buying up those leftover 260s from last year I still need to buy one for my daughter it will make the perfect rifle for her one day plus it is from the year she was born!
