What Caliber to Sell Mauser

In a swap deal, I got two new .30 cal. barrels, a Mauser long action with trigger attached and a cut-down WWII German stock.
I am going to have my 'Smith install one of the barrels.
My question is: to market the rifle, should I have the barrel chambered for 30-06, or .308Win.?
One barrel is blued and the other is in the white. If I get an trade offers, I will consider that route also.

If I had a long action Mauser and 30 caliber barrel, I sure would like to have a 300 H&H for fun since I am a handloader. :mrgreen:

I thin k that the popularity of the .30-06 out reaches that of the .308 in most US market regions. If you are going to sell locally maybe the .308 is a better bet. I would go with you gut as to what will sell in the region that you are targeting. I have owned one .308 and probably 7-8, .30-06's. Just my opinion.

.308 in a full length Mauser just doesn't make any sense to me....30-06 is what I'd build, or one of the 30mags.

IMO you'd be better off selling the components rather than sinking more into it with a gunsmith. It's rare to make money on a Mauser unless your the one doing the work and it's got a high dollar stock on it.

IdahoCTD, I have it up on GunsAmerica, as is. No bites yet. Actually, I have to parts rifles like that for sale, or for trade.

First off, Idaho CTD is correct. I buy Mausers already sporterized, play with em a bit and sell em. I usually break even... sometime I make a few bucks or lose a few bucks, but I can guarantee I don't lose as much as one would lose having the rifle built. If you do build it, do it because it is something you really want.

Second of all Hodgeman is correct, as well... If you decide to go forward with the project, you have the length of action to accommodate something longer than 308. To me, it just makes sense to use that available space.
