Which bullet for 308 and Elk

These 2 cows fell to my 30-06 with the 165 Ballistic tips at 2800 fps. Distance was about 165 yards or so. Never recovered a bullet.
In our camp there are 2 guys who use the 178 ELD but from 300 mags at over 3100 fps. Longest shot has been 320 yards but most under 200 yards. A bit soft at these velocities but they always bring the elk to camp.
I myself have moved on to Hammers and TTSX/LRX pretty much exclusively due to price and availability.
