Winchesters????

YUP! I have only seen one of them.. They were beautiful rifles.. Your right, I would be all over one if they were still available.

Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't pick some of these up when they were available. However, I can't have everything. Doesn't change my desire, however.

For $3k I can build my own and it will be a tackdriver.

Jake,
Those are nice. I've always wanted a one with a tapered octagon barrel. MSRP of 3k would probably mean retail of 2400$ to 2600$. Fotis is right though you could make one for that kind of budget.

Yeah, I'm thinking $3k in 2007 dollars was a bit of a sales killer.

But man oh man I would love to have a factory M70 Whelen...

Yeah, without a doubt Kurt.

I would have been all over a 340 in a Winchester as well.

Oh yeah. Love to have M70s in Weatherby's .257, 7mm, .300, .340. and .375...

(Truth be told, you could probably scratch the 7, the .30, and the .375 and I'd be happy as a pig in mud.)

Think I know one of the reasons Winchester no longer chambers the RUMs  Just over seven pounds and those rifles recoil like a mad mule!

Woody, your description of the RUM recoil factor is on the money. 8 shots out of my .338RUM and I'm ready for an aspirin. My rifle is also 9lbs. but doesn't seem to make a heck of a lot of difference.

As long as I can afford foam USAF ear plugs I will go LARGE  run brakes on my thumpers ! Mainly due to blood thinners as I am a big boy and can suck up some recoil but not into all the different colors my shoulder turns after a box or so of 338-378 rounds! I do have thread protectors for them if I wanta go without a brake! 300 Win Mag, 300 Wby & 338-378 Wby shoot real nice with a brake! that rifle was a little expensive and I guess they did not make many or maybe people are just taking great care of them and holding on to them?
