I am working on a documentary for one of Britain’s most prestigious TV stations, Channel Four, on big game hunting. The aim of this observational programme is to find, follow and film the most intrepid, adventurous and accomplished hunter on the mission of his life. This can be either completing a grand slam, venturing into new territory or seeking the most elusive. What does it take to bring back that once in a lifetime trophy? A steady hand, anticipating the beast, perseverance or simply luck? Could this be you or someone you know? Let me know if you are interested in sharing your stories or if you or any of your friends are planning any exciting trips in the near future.

Best regards -- Julia

Julia:

Theoretically this sounds Grand.
Practically though this type of thing is restricted mostly to people who have a large amount of time and even a larger amount of money.

How many average Joes can actually afford the big 5 of Africa or a trophy Sheep Grand Slam?

Nice of you to do this though.

Julia - believe you might need to pursue two different things:

1) A hunt for something truly dangerous - something that has a strong possibility of eating or grinding the hunter to mush. Polar bear or Cape Buffalo come to mind. Jaguar with a spear perhaps?

2) A hunt for something rare, and difficult to find - a true trophy. A hunt in some wild, inaccesible place for The Largest wild (fill in the blank). The biggest ram, bull elk, oryx or whatever... As long as it's a difficult hunt requiring great amounts of time and effort on the part of the hunter, for a truly magnificent animal.

Regards, Guy

Big Cat, hahaha, yah man I hear you on that one! Pretty damn hard to find a spike sometimes. On a sidenote, I was looking at putting in for tags and noticed they screwed around with the spike seasons again. Now we have to put in for 2nd seasons instead of just buying the tag over the counter. How dumb is that. Oregon is getting ridiculous with some of its ways.

Take a look at the fossil unit hunts where i have hunted all of my life. They have carved it up like thanksgiving turkey from a few good big hunts into 6 or 8 little hunts all with limited tag numbers. Stupid ODFW sometimes. I am almost ready to just go hunting without their say so!!!! Too bad i wasnt born 50-100 years ago i guess! I just get so tired of paying caviar prices for leftover chittlin and crawdads.

Julia.................you have a few issues to deal with, but a big one is that none of the most serious and didicated hunters I know......the ones that are serious hunters and not trying to sell videos, dvds or fill hunts for their outfitting business.............will not want you tagging along.

Filming and hunting are two different things.........that is why your average film crew for hunting shows tend to be in camp longer than a regular hunter. When the opportunity comes to take a bruiser, the light might not be right or the situation wrong to get it on film. No one that has a bunch of their hard earned coin on the table for a once in a life time crack at their holly grail is going to want a film crew tripping along and possibly screwing things up.

You can come with me on the next one as long as you want to foot the bill.

I found this thread, and then I saw the year of posting.
But it's interesting, maybe someone knows if the documentary was finished? I'd like to watch it

To be honest, I have no idea, but yesterday I watched the documentary called Watch Stars in the Sky: A Hunting Story ( Netflix ), and it was a pretty good one. Maybe, you've not seen it yet. I like documentaries a lot, and I've seen many different ones, but that one I can say is one of the best. And soon, I have to send a paper, which I should write on documentaries, and I have a few writing options. I came across this page https://graduateway.com/essay-examples/documentary/ with different paper examples on that there, and after reading a few, interesting ideas appeared in my head. Maybe, I'll also include to my writing something from what I watched, but I think I'll read more examples to write an amazing paper.
