I've been remiss in not introducing my latest rifle. Found this good older Glenfield (by Marlin) for a good price. Dusted it off, mounted my favorite little 2.5x Leupold on the existing Weaver base and I'm calling it good. I like carrying a lever action rifle with iron sights, but I hit better in the field with a scope. This is intended to be a hunting rifle, so it gets the scope.

I even like the sort-of silly, pressed-in buck:

Always favored the lever rifles with the fore-end cap:

I won't be surprised if this handy rifle ends up on at least a couple of my planned hunts this fall. Bear, whitetail, maybe even elk... Why not? I've already got a bunch of 170 gr Remington round-nose CL bullets loaded up over a modest charge of BLC2.

See Scotty - I do like leverguns! Now I'm back to having a pair of them, the .22 Marlin and this .30-30 Glenfield.

Great buy, Guy. Congratulations. The thuty-thuty is a fine cartridge that doesn't always get the respect it deserves, though some have ascribed to it powers beyond its reach. On the whole, it is still a great cartridge that allows us to hold a part of true Americana.

Good looking rifle Guy, I shot my first buck with a 30-30 marlin 336C and it is still the second biggest buck I have downed to date
For years now I have had a Savage 340C bolt in the 30-30 with a 1-4 Scopechief on it is a great little bush gun

Blessings,
Dan

Guy, that is a GREAT 30-30 right there! Good score. That little 2.5X Leupold looks great on top of it as well. I got that little 30-30 M94 a year or more ago and man, my son tears it up! Loves it. I am thinking it will be his in the future. I do think the scope is a much better hunting set up though. I hope you get to hunt with it this Fall. I always look forward to carrying the lever rifles. Hardly ever leave the house without them!

I thought you had a Marlin 30-30 already?

Guy,

Nice find. You have your 100 yd Black Bear rifle.

Scotty - I did have a .30-30 Marlin... But I liked this one more! Fickle, I know...

Nvbroncrider - maybe the Noslers someday, but I'm not sure I see much need at .30-30 velocity.

JD338 - yes indeed - am thinking the same thing - there's a hunt I've got in mind where we will likely see only shorter range shots at bear... One reason that much of our shooting today was at 50 yards, not long range. Wanted to practice the close up stuff.

It sure is a nice handling rifle!

Now send it to JES in Cottage Grove, OR to have it bored out to a 375 Win. A mini 45-70 that will be great for cast bullets or 220 gr FP

It sure isn't hard to figure out why the lever action was so popular with hunters. They just seem to feel right in your hands. Even the chunky 45-70 is easy to carry all day long.

Thats a very clean rifle for its age, very nice condition. I only have one rifle without a scope, but will scope it before it goes after game. Great purchase!!

I had a Glenfield 30/30 just like that one I bought years ago from Monkey Wards. It was a simpler time, but I brought home the game. I owned a Glenfield 30/30, 20 gauge Remington 870, Remington bolt action 22LR and a 38 Revolver.

I have a Marlin 30-30 with the staright (non-pistol grip) stock and full length magazine that I picked up at a gun show fo $100. The stock has been split at one time and the repair job, while not all that pretty was well done and appeared strong. Hell! What do you want for $100, a 275 Rigby from Rigby himself? I put an old 3X El paso Weaver with post reticle on it and it been a nice shooter and truck gun ever since. It even likes my cast bullet loads. 8)

That's a rifle anybody would be proud to hunt with. I also happen to like the pressed in checkering and animal designs. It shows my age but I think they're a nice design from a simpler time.
Enjoy
