Just got off the phone with my Dad, his nieghbor in Edson Alberta just shot ahuge wolf,in his back yard. Supossedly this beast weighed in 280+ lbs. he's going to e-mail me some pics I'll try and get them on here shortly. He's been telling me how brave the wolves are getting around there, quite an increase in numbers. Cougar population is also up, lots of sightings this year compared to the last couple.

Just got back from a week in the bush of northern Ontario for a fishing trip. Driving back last night (11PM) I thought I saw a huge dog running along the rode ahead. As I got close, I could see it was a wolf, so I slowed down to see what it would do. When I stopped about 30 yards from it, the darn thing just stood and stared at me. I see wolves in northern Minnesota deer hunting regularly, but this was the biggest one I have ever seen and he wasn't afraid of me at all. Would have loved to test a load on it, but the best weapon with me was a fillet knife :x .

When we lived in Jasper (very near to Edson), there were a number of the black phase wolves. Consequently, we saw black wolves all the time. Now, living in northern BC, it is not at all unusual to see wolves on any given outing into the bush. Here, they are pretty leery of humans, however. Whenever you see one, he is almost always booking it for safety. We did call in a large black wolf a couple of years ago. He came at a run from over 450 yards away and ran to within 100 yards of where three of us were seated in plain view. He was a beautiful black male.

Thanks for the help, I couldn't get it to work. Whats the secret I followed the instructions in the help section didn't work for me. The wolf's definitely a monster, as usual the story has changed on how he got it, he was hunting black bear and this guy came into the bait so he took him.

I think the problem is the link/addy to your picture. I has brackets [] inside the address. That may be preventing it from working. Check the web address to see if it's correct.

That is a big wolf for sure.
I had a big male wolf with a radio collar at my bear bait in '95. I watched him for over an hour until dark.
When I left, a walk of wolves were howling a few hundred yards away. they kept pace with me as I walked back to my truck a 1/2 mile away and howled three different times. It was a little unnerving!

The next night I shot a nice bear.

The only thing I could think of to say when I saw that wolf was wholly s@!%. I also understand that where I hunt deer here in western Manitoba, there has been a number of sightings of wolves where we had none before. This to go along with all the yotes that we already have :x

Sounds like the guy is getting a full mount done, about $1000 completed. He must have abig house, and a very understanding wife, I mean tucking in trembling kids every nite would be achore in itself. By the way this guy stands 6'3" tall.

That is big, er VERY BIG. I am fairly familiar with the common timber wolf (Canis Lupis) and that is huge. That thing could pull down a fiar sized cow alone!!
