There really are 3 shots there but I must of flinched or something cause I can't normally shoot like that.

With this and the 6.5, I'll adjust the scope a bit and call them good if the repeat is even close to this.

Good shootin!

Looks like maybe you hit the slow node (node 5) at 1.33 milliseconds...there should be another one at around 1.2 milliseconds...you may be able to reach it with a bit more powder (QuickLoad puts it at just under 64,000 psi and ~3,075 fps).

The load you have is great, I'm not knocking it at all...just saying, there may be more to be had, but approach it slowly if you decide to proceed.

Thanks!
Funny you mention that.
I ran it up on Quickload against the OBT calc and loaded a little conservatively to that.
May call this one good for now after I confirm it and search out that higher one this winter.

It doesn't get much better then that. Mid 2900 fps, with 160 grn AB. Great accuracy… gotta love it!

My 270 win wants to grow up to be a 280 AI, but it's shooting 140 grn AB so well, it's hard to justify taking the barrel off right now. Maybe after a bit more erosion.

I'm probably no help to you then.
I REALLY like this cartridge.
I imagine that 270 w a 140 does great though.

Man what a great cartridge and load you have put together there. My father shot a Winchester Model 70 with a 24" barrel in 7mm Mag and with his load and 160 gr. Partitions it chronographed at 3070 fps. I'm impressed~!

That has to put a smile on your face. Great shooting and a fine load.

That is some fine shooting & a great load. I have not tried any other bullet in my 280AI other than the 150 ABLRs.
I do load 160gr. ABs for my Nephews 7mm mag & my hunting partner's as well. The load is 60grs. of IMR4350 using a chrony it is just over 3000fps. It is very accurate as well.
Dewey that 160gr. AB looks to be a real keeper good work.

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks all.
Dan, I cannot find any ABLRs of any flavor. I really want to play with the 150s in 7mm and the 6.5s. I have not seen one single ABLR box in the state of Ohio and drop by lots of shops in my travels. I think they're like going on a snipe hunt at least for me. Grrrrrr.
I saw Dr Mike's results with the 280 and the ABLR last year and it was impressive. Really need some of those to play with.
Sure wish they'd come up with one in 257. Hint...Hint.....I would have no issue buying a 9 or 9.5 twist 25 cal barrel.

Very nice Dewey! I wouldn't mess with that 280 at all. 160's running that fast is a recipe for hunting anything, just stock up on all the 160's you can find. I think your set buddy! Great shooting.

I was talking to the guy that handles all the reloading stuff at my local Sportsman's Warehouse about the 7MM 150 gr. ABLR's and he said, "It's been over a year since he's seen any." And I said back "Me neither and I think it was me that got the last two boxes." He hasn't seen any Sierra 150 gr. .270 Game Kings in almost a year as well. First it was primers, then powder that was scarce. Now it appears bullets, at least certain ones are on the disappearing list. :?: Well at least I did snag a couple of cans of IMR7828SSC to play with in my .280 Rem. Sometimes I get lucky.
I do have to wonder though if the twist in my .280 and 7x57 might be too slow for that bullet? Guess I'll have to break down and buy a cheapie aluminum rod to measure the twist in both rifles. The ones I have now are black and it's kind of hard to see the marks from the Sharpee.

There is nothing wrong with the 160 gr AB, I would keep it as is too. Yes it would be nice to play with the ABLR's but that is one fantastic load right there.

The 150 gr ABLR is where its at in the 280 AI. 3100 fps makes for a flat shooting thumper. With a 200 yd zero, I am able to get to 800 yds with less than I revolution on the M1 dials. 1200 yds would me 30 MOA.

800 -123.3 -14.7 39.0 4.7 1948.8 1.746 1264.7 0.977 172.0 20.5
1200 -380.4 -30.3 100.2 8.0 1492.7 1.337 742.0 1.682 296.0 23.6

Mark your rod with a piece of tape.

Thanks all!
I was really just grumbling about the ABLRs anyway. I'm sure some will show up before I start messing with it anyhow.
You are also correct that the 160 AB should do anything I need done and I reshot the load and it worked very well again so I'm through messing with this one until after the season.
Scope is adjusted and set. Used a 200 yd zero so should be good to go (if I'm allowed to go play at all  )
Thanks once again.
