Hello any body Irecently got a 257 roberts ackley imp rifle and am having a hard time finding load data .There seems to be contradictory info out there. for instance Hornadays Manuel has H4831sc for a 100g bullet 43.8 to 50.0 grains with speeds from 2700 to 3100fps. While accuretreloading.com has the same powder and bullet at 49 to55.0 gr at 2741 to 3174fps!! :? I really want to find some data on Vihtavouri powder but none exsists in ther book (I have emailed them to this affect). any help would be appreciated Patrick

Most of the informal data on the so called improved cartridges are gross overloads. However Sierra and some other manuals have data on a few of them. I did not check Sierra's #5 but perhaps someone else will for you or their site says what cartridges are included.

The thing to do anyway is to use a chronograph and watch for any signs of high pressure. Hagel say's that "Every rifle is an individual".

Both Nosler No.4 and No. 5 list data for the .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. The No. 4 lists between 46.5 and 50.5 gr of H-4831 SC for the 115 gr Partition. They didn't list any loads for the 100 gr bullets with 4831. But they did list Vihtavuori N-160 with the 100 gr bullets from 46.0 gr to 50.0 gr for a maximum velocity of 3173 out of their 24" Wiseman barrel. Pick up one of the Nosler loading manuals. The No. 5 has even more of the Ackley Improved cartridges in it. It makes for interesting reading, even if you don't own the cartridges. I have the No. 5 downstairs, just too lazy to go get it.

Hey Patrick,
Call up the guys at customer service 1 (800) 285-3701. They can give you some good loads for the .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. Our Reloading Guide #5 lists IMR4350 as the most accurate powder in our barrel with the 100gr Ballistic Tip in the .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. Start weight 46.0gr with max load 50.0gr. As always start low and slowly work your way up.
