H870 data

That looks to be powder that wouldn't be suitable for 264wm. h870 could be better for the heavier bullets like most slow burning powders do

Never used it in a 264 Win Mag but did in a 25-06 with 115gr Nosler Pt. Know couple of shooters that used it in their 7mmRM. Slow and dirty but got good groups with it. Hope someone has the data. I'll see if I can find some info.

Boomer, Nosler No 1. 125 gn pt has starting load for H-870- 73gns to77gns max. 140 gn starting load for H870 - 70 gn to 74 gn max

Hope that helps

Kevin

That’s great. Many thanks!

I have loaded a lot of H870 for my old 7mm RM. It will give good velocity and accuracy, but it is dirty as hell and will cake in the cartridge if left too long. So shoot it up quickly - especially crush loads.

The 1st nosler manual i bought was the 8th edition. The only manual i ever owned until then was a Sierra #5 in '84. Only shot Sierra's until '14 before I ever bought any other brands.

H870 was great with 175 gr Nosler Partitions or 175 gr Sierra GameKings in my 7mm Remington Magnum. As others have said, it's pretty dirty, but accurate and can produce excellent velocity as well. Took my big bull elk 25 years ago using it!

I'd think it would do very well with the 264 Win Mag. None of my older manuals are available right now, but it looks like the guys have you covered.

Regards, Guy

Here is some load data from some old manuals of mine.

I have a whole shelf of old manuals, it is amazing how often you find yourself looking in one because a cartridge did not make the cut for the newer editions.
Yeah, that's my gripe with the Hodgdon Annual. They started dropping some of the older cartridges a few years ago.
