I got this in my morning news yesterday . stick together guys . divide and conquer is being used against us . this is why I seldom post pics .

An article that each of us should read. We need to be cautious about displaying our hunts--not fearful, but aware of the potential to either teach our neighbours or inflame their emotions.

I believe Oregon (?) is another example of this problem as well, with the banning of all hunting (and some other animal related things) all together being thrown around there.
How many times have we heard “you don’t need more than ten rounds for hunting”, or “you don’t need an assault rifle to hunt with”?
Now think about this as well, once hunting has been eliminated, the argument can go “since hunting isn’t allowed, why do you need guns?”

I think you're right about Oregon . I'm pretty sure they were just in the news about trying to stop hunting and fishing .

PA sportsmen are really divided . a few years back they changed opening day of rifle deer season . the guys are very divided over this, saying it ruined "tradition " and their camp life , and family time for Thanksgiving dinner . there was talk about allowing semi's for deer hunting , the guys are very divided over this , saying it would turn hunters into spray and pray , and it would not be safe in the woods . it used to be a hunter needed a Doctors excuse to get a permit allowing use of a crossbow , now anyone can use a crossbow , division here too . real archers use a vertical bow , and crossbows should be only be allowed in rifle season . a lot of hunters complain about the archery hunters getting all the deer , because their season is before rifle season . guys have suggested alternating the seasons , so everyone can be first . archery season is way too long , and should be shortened, another compliant . allowing Sunday hunting is another divider .allowing Sundays just started 2 years ago . I'm hearing talk about allowing hunting deer over bait in certain areas , this will be another hot button issue . the list is long , and growing .

when I started hunting we had 2 weeks of rifle "BUCK" season requiring a 3" spike , followed by 2 DAYS of rifle "DOE" season . the doe season could get extended "IF" there was inclement weather . we would hunt all day and come home and listen to the local radio station to hear if the season got extended to the next day . then it was changed to the upcoming Saturday . then it changed to 3 days of doe . we also had a 1 deer per year limit .

now we have 2 weeks of "DEER " season , with some areas , pretty much , having unlimited doe tags . some areas is 2 weeks either sex . some areas is first week "buck" only followed with 1 week either sex . for awhile the whole state was 2 weeks either sex . we do have antler restrictions ; requiring 3 points on one side, a few areas require 3 points on top . I still hear / read complaints on the antler restrictions .

funny thing is , I NEVER heard a complaint about 2 days of DOE season , being turned into 1 or 2 weeks of " any deer " season . nor do I hear complaints about allowing a high number of doe tags . I guess this tradition wasn't that important .

I don't know the solution to any of this , but I wish it would stop . when I sit back and look at this , we are our own worst enemy .

I agree , I follow the laws . I'm sure not ashamed of what I do , but I'm not going to be in their face either .


I liken this to all the "pride " hoopla . I really don't care what way your gate swings , just stop rubbing my nose in it .

I agree with this as well.
I sometimes wonder what would happen if it was just “hunting season”?
Use what you want.
Limit it to what ever limit will help manage the herd?
Everyone gets 1-2 antlered and 2-3 Doe, for example?
Once you get your limit you’ll done?
I don’t have any of the answers, or really know what’s best, and I know WHAT EVER is done someone is going to complain about it for one reason or another.
And the antis are going to use our disagreements to their advantage any chance they can get.

it is Oregon , I saw it in the news last night . somethings going on the ballot about , hunting , trapping , fishing , and farming . they said it had a very low chance of going anywhere . but they keep trying
