Bullet vote please

I can place bullet anywhere i want out to 1k yards . Learned that very well with a issued m24 sws . Its the preference of the bullet that would probably make a difference if you try drive it through a high shoulder shot VS just say through the flesh and heart or lungs.
One bullet might just pass through if to tough , one might expand on just soft tissue but disintegrate on bone . I need a bullet fir both. Fast expansion and hold together enough to push through bone if needed

I now vote for just putting it behind the ear and be done with it. Pass the shot if not avaiable.

That would be to easy .
Ideally yeah that would work great especially with a 175gr matching (m118LR) load. Thay do the damage.
Unfortunately the state of Alabama you have to use an expanding bullet. We have shots a few dear with the 175 grain load it goes through both shoulders !.

I just didn't know how tough that AccuBond for Partition bullet was honestly if I'm going to hit him in the base of the neck just order the shoulder any soft point would probably work the amount of shock is what's going to break the neck probably

In my opinion you are getting too caught up with "rapid expansion". Bullets expand on impact and travel through the. The difference you see is how much the expand or hold together.

A lot of people claim "penciling though" but this is very rarely the case. How many people with a naked eye can tell if the exit hole is bullet diameter or 1.5x diameter. Or if the soft tissue expanded and contracted as the bullet went through.

The majority of my game animals in the last 20 years have been taken with mono bullets, Accubonds, or Partitions. I've had as many bang flops with those bullets as I ever did with the cup and core.

With what you are wanting honestly just about any hunting bullet will work. For Nosler the Ballistic Tip or Solid base would be good cup and core options. If you are intentionally taking shoulder shots I personally would use the AccuBond or Partition to reduce meat damage. However any of them will kill.

Bigger reason for a tipped bullet for this load is because its for a autoloader . Browning BAR mk4 . I figured it would reduce/ stop from smashing the lead tips when cycling.
I use a Sierra gameking btsp in one gun . It did the job with a base of neck shot . Crazy part is it didnt exit!! And shot was about 90 yards

6 pages of mostly 1st hand experience with the bullets in question! Pick one, work up a load, sight rifle in and go kill stuff. It's as simple as that!! Good luck!

I dont mind paying for the better bullets . Just didnt know if how thay would preform on our small deer lol or if thay would just pencil through if hit soft tissue

About all I can say about my use of the Speer Hot Core is of all the deer I shot with them, I only recovered one bullet. It held about 65% retained weight. The deer was facing me at 250 yards laser measured and the hit was about where the base of the neck met the body, That bullet passed all the way through the deer coming to a stop on the IIRC the left rear ham breaking that rear leg bone. All the other were complete pass throughs as I normally try for lung or heart shots.

did you happen to look through the bullet test section on this forum ? there is just about any bullet one can think of posted there . most guys list the impact velocity and how much penetration . this might help you make up your mind .

My favorite mule deer spot puts me on top of a series of cliffs. It’s a spot I can intercept deer heading to bed, or getting up in the afternoon. Typical shot is about 200 yards horizontal and about 100 vertical. Most of the deer I’ve shot there have been taken thru the spine between the shoulder blades. Took a number of them with partitions, then I switched to Ballistic tips when they came out. The partitions generally exited thru the brisket. The ballistic tips did not. The spine shredded the 150 grain Ballistic tips. Didn’t matter they were all DRT.
I think any thing you shoot a deer with, out of an 06, high shoulder shot will do the same thing, drop them right there.
