    Deer reactions when hit.

So against the grain of my recent experience which I set out in the original post, the biggest deer I’ve shot was an 11 point red deer, a big one for this area. Shot was direct into the front of his chest as he was facing me at 175y. Rifle was 30-06 and the bullet the 190g Hornady BTSP at MV...

    Deer reactions when hit.

G’day Mike. Thanks for the fast reply! Everything you’ve said makes sense, and the fifth I shot which I mentioned in the thread was in fact hit in the neck and dropped. The fact is but, I have noticed pigs respond differently, in general. Not in the absolute but in general by my observation...

    Deer reactions when hit.

Hello all. Been quite a while since I’ve been on here. I’ve not hunted deer that much. Mainly I’ve shot pigs, goats, roos and many smaller game. This week I shot four deer, all does for meat. They were all red deer and decent sized though not huge animals. (I did shoot one other that this...

357 Magnum rifle loads - cast / coated with Green Dot

FWIW as an update. Today I shot 4g of Green Dot under a 122g Hi Tek coated flat point - it printed groups at 50y that I didn’t think I could shoot with open sights. About half an inch for three shots, for three groups. And it was about 38 degrees centigrade so it wasn’t the nicest conditions...

357 Magnum rifle loads - cast / coated with Green Dot

Thanks KW. Appreciate the links. As it turns out you are right, I REALLY like it. I don’t shoot much with open sights but this is quite accurate (under 3 moa consistently out to 75y) and the fit and finish is just great for the price. Looks the part too. I’ve been loading 6g of Green Dot...

357 Magnum rifle loads - cast / coated with Green Dot

G’day Gents, Been a while since I’ve posted but I’m in new territory now. Just received a new Rossi Puma 357 Magnum with the 16” bbl. Pistol powders are near impossible to get down here at the moment (have a guess where they are all going 🤣) so in desperation I busted into the vault of Dad’s...

I wonder if someone would QL a 243 Ackley load for me...?

Been playing with this rifle more of late so I thought it was worth an update on a rainy morning (70mm of rain overnight!)... I’ve found the rifle shoots quite well with about 0.020” of jump. Recently been shooting 90g NBTs for a general purpose hunting load and the 105g BTHP Hornady for long...

New 6mmBR and a couple of loads

Also cobbled together a new load to share with you all this time with the 75g Vmax and H4895. In truth the aggregate group size should have been lower because I pulled one shot way low on the left hand group. Still, sub 0.5moa in a strong wind over the tailgate of the truck is more than a...

New 6mmBR and a couple of loads

WBB I have some Varget and CCI 450’s. I’ll give them a whirl!

New 6mmBR and a couple of loads

The 87g Vmax I find performs a lot more like a traditional light hunting bullet than a varmint bullet. Though velocity would have been below 2500fps at impact, it entered via the right shoulder and exited via the chest and only left a golf ball sized exit hole...

New 6mmBR and a couple of loads

Knocked over another Reynard just now, this time right on 245 yards. 30kph consistent wind left to right necessitated a bit of hold off. I’d say I got just a little lucky with the wind call as he was facing away and I did not have a lot of latitude for a body shot...
