Other rifles for today's range day

I’m pretty happy with the Terminal Ascent. Groups are well under MOA and my chrony averages were 2978 fps at 10 feet from the muzzle. That’s was a load with RL 26 and that wasn’t max. After JD338 and I jugged one it measured.701” and weighed 175 grains. That ends a lot of arguments. I can’t...

    Coues deer

Never been Coues deer hunting but, I want to. Read up on it and listened to a bunch of podcasts about it. There is one thing that I took away from what I’ve heard. They are small and give you a small fleeting target to shoot at. So I would take whatever rifle you have that you shoot the...

Rain gear or easy to dry clothes

I’m starting to plan for a future hunt possibly for black tail in SE Alaska. My childhood buddy and I who I bear hunt with every fall in the UP of Michigan have been talking about a hunt to Alaska for black tail for a couple of years now. One common theme has been “plan on being wet”. I’ve...

    40S&W

I have no doubt it’s money but as far as I’m concerned anything that the nine can do a 40 does better and the 45 will duplicate the gap with the 40. Bullet technology works well across the board. What’s good for the 9 is good for them all. My handloads with my nothing special 155 and 180 gold...

    AR varmint bullet

Thanks for that info. I’ll be checking those out.

    40S&W

How and why did it become the bastard child? I’ve been in law enforcement for 24 years now and was a USAF MP for almost five more so I’ve been packing a duty side arm since 91‘ Beretta 92F 9mm, Sigs 9 mm-40 cal , S&W 640 and a host of Glocks. I’ve owned a handful of other pistols in various...

    AR varmint bullet

Thanks for the info. I’m thinking the blitz king might be the ticket or something like it. I’m looking for something that will flatten a coon and not go much farther. I was just concerned that something that frangible wouldn’t hold up spun that fast in a 1:7” twist. I’ve got plenty 62 gr...

Would this be less accurate measuring?

If it holds that bullet snug enough you’d likely be able to set up your seating die fairly close using it. Something you couldn’t do with the Hornady tool.

Would this be less accurate measuring?

Similar to how my dad measured cases before the Stoney point tool came out. My dad was an industrial arts teacher who taught precision machining and drafting since 1960 and was a machinist mate in the USN prior to that. Add a little layout die to check where the lands are touching and that’s...

    AR varmint bullet

Looking for the best bullet for vermin to shoot of my AR. Easy button is a 55 grain BT or Vmax. But I want something that will blow to heck when it strikes something as small as a raccoon. Rifle is a Colt M4 LE/military 5.56 1:7”. Wondering how light I can go with that twist that will shoot...

Colorado is looking more like California....

I don’t buy their excuses based on biased science for one second. If they were truly concerned about the environment they would get rid of all their damn windmills that kill more critters than anything.

    Experiences with 8MM's

Interesting thread and, some great pics. Nothing wrong with the 8mm of any flavor it just never got any attention in the US probably because of where it came from and its association with the world wars. And never got much consideration for bullet development because of that. However, an 8-06...

    Back to muzzle loading

I’ve read that so many times about the old percussion and flint locks that were of the economy grade. You’re not lying for certain. I’ve seen those things rust like a late 70’s Chevy. Only good news is you can basically replace the barrel fairly easily and start over. Thanks everyone for...

    Back to muzzle loading

So, after looking at it, it isn’t a Lyman. It was a hand me down and the last time I looked at it was a few years ago. it was a “bonus” that came with my Uncle’s 270 and my dad grabbed from camp back in 2017 and that was the last time I looked at it. It’s an Investarms Hawken made in Italy...
