Were it me, I would have my local smith do the Sako/M-16 extractor modification on the 722 bolt. It’s about $150-175 but it will likely not break ever again. My smith in Bend did this last year for a relative’s Remington 700 in 6mm and it was a huge upgrade.

Douglas is quick too. I have several of their barrels. Through my gunsmith in Bend, turnaround from the time I drop off the rifle until pickup is usually 4-6 weeks total.

I had a decent shooting Rem 722 in Triple Deuce a few years ago that I sold like a fool. This Sako is even prettier and shoots better. I’m happy! Love me a good .222!

Near as I can tell no. Cosmetically the Vixen had a nicer machined floor plate, where mine is stamped. The bolt shrouds are some different too. I happen to think a 24” barrel is just about perfect for any of my sporters, even with a .222 26” is too long, 22” is too short.

Thanks! Always preferred the look of a dull, hand rubbed finish. The stock modifications made it feel much more like a sporter and less like a wannabe target rifle. That said, if I can find a heavy barreled Winchester push-feed target rifle in .222, I may just get it for punching paper!

Never too late to pick one up! Starline (and others) make brass, .224 bullets are plentiful. The report from the 24” barrel is just a bit louder than a .22 Magnum to my ears. Definitely quieter than any .223 I have ever fired.
