My Hawkeye all weather in 338 will shoot 3 under an inch with my handloads. I've got the trigger slicked up well. Nice rifle in my opinion. Good purchase!
That is VERY impressive! It seems some people don't believe a 338 WM will push a 225 bullet anywhere near 2900. I get about 2950 with 225 accubonds and haven't recovered a bullet after 3 elk kills but I know they don't look like that! Nice pictures by the way !
I know this post is old, but if Skidmark hasn't found any molds, track of the Wolf sells 54 and 50 maxi balls cast from TC molds. The price is very reasonable and they shoot great!. Let me know if you need info. GLENN
I've been using 777 for years in my TC new Englander (caplock). No ignition issues. I accidentally bought fffg last year and wondered why it kicked so bad  I've have cut my powder charge now and it has faster ignition than ffg. I personally like it a lot. As for the o.p.'s questions...
I've killed quite a few elk with my 06 and the old nosler solid base. The last few have been with 225 accubonds . They don't stop after going thru elk, (well they are up on the mountainside somewhere!). My 338 will push them through both shoulders and keep going. Someday I might find one. Great...
I recently bought some musket niples and was disappointed to find the hole on the threaded side was smaller than regular nipples. A dry patch down to the bottom of the barrel and popping some caps proved I was getting WAY more fire from #11 rws cap. I got those from cabela's (musket nipples )...
(y) I'm thinking if you seat those bullets out further it'll shoot even better! But that ain't bad. I never crimp for bolt action, can't remember what you said about that. I let the magazine dictate how long my loads are. Haven't run into the lands yet. Good shooting!
I've had one in 54 Cal for 26 years. It's still a great gun. Accurate with prb, sabot or conicals. I love the way it fits and points. Buy it (y) . We live in the same town!
