    45-70 and 350gr Hot Cor?

They perform pretty much as a hard cast. They expand a little but penetrate very deep. I’ve never recovered one, but truthfully I haven’t used then on anything big enough to stress the bullet. They have been very accurate for me. To use them in 45-70 you have to use the LEE fcd. Also, from my...

Winter time - Cabin Fever.. what to do

It’s a sickness. It happpened gradually and piece by piece to me. I have a cheap $400 Remington 783. I added a 26” #5 Contour, 1:8 twist stainless X-Caliber barrel in 7mm Rem Mag, Timney trigger, PT&G AICS bottom metal and bolt head, Boyd’s French Walnut stock, bedded the action, and Duracoated...

    Opinions on Speer Hot-Cor bullets?

Yes, the 300 Win Mag fires a .308 diameter bullet. Alaska is saying he likes the 200 grain, .308 diameter bullet, fired from his 300 Win Mag. I think the Hot Cor bullets are overlooked. They perform very well when impact velocities are 3000 fps or below. They are economical, and are very...

Any plans for a new rifle in 2025?

I think this is an excellent idea! This never crossed my mind but the cases would last forever in a 308 Win. Thanks, now I want to acquire Fury cases.

    Random Question About Hard Casts

I have a random question about hard cast rounds after cleaning the rifle. After cleaning my 1895 in 45-70, I will put a little melted Carnauba Red bullet lube on a patch and run it through the cleaned barrel, then run a couple tight dry patches through the bore to make sure there is only a thin...

10mm to 45 Super in Alaska

Thank you. Good information. I may have to work up a good hunting load.

10mm to 45 Super in Alaska

I don’t take extended distance shots at game. It’s bowhunting ranges for me. I put one of the GD 230’s through both lungs of a Whitetail at 20 yards with exit 4-5 years ago. I agree though. If I were going for anything bigger or defense I would go with 255 grain hard casts.

10mm to 45 Super in Alaska

I have a Springfield 1911 that I made 45 Super capable. I enjoy it very much. I Added a ported 6” barrel to a 5” slide. Added a recoil buffer and a heavier Wolf hammer, and went from the stock 16 lb to a 20 lb recoil spring. I’m getting 1239 fps with Underwood, 45 Super 230 grain Gold Dot loads...

    270 powder

I faithfully use IMR 4831 in my 270 Win as well. Staball 6.5 is just about as good as the old IMR standby in my rifle, velocity and accuracy are great as well. Staball will also save you a few dollars over 4350, but both will serve you equally.

    RL22 vs RL23

I picked up 4 lbs of 7828 SSC from Cabela’s in Jan or Feb last year to bring me back up to the 8 lb mark. Occasionally they have powders pop up that aren’t in stock elsewhere. I like it for some loads for my 7mm Rem Mag. It also showed promise in my 270 WSM. That being said, I and these two...

Which powder to get more speed in 7 Mag

One of my 7 mm RM’s likes RL25 as well. 175gr ELD-X’s group very nicely at a 3003 fps average without leaning on it hard. It’s a 26” X-Caliber barrel and is a very nice shooter.

    Federal’s 7mm Backcountry

I just don’t trust them. Copper cup primers aren’t designed to consistently operate at this rounds pressure. An unmodified factory rifle, with factory ammo, and a mallet is needed to open the bolt. It’s a 80k psi SAAMI max cartridge. What do you suppose an overpressure round is running that will...

ABLR BC changing at extended range?

Try a Berger with full jacket. Maybe the tips do actually deform from heat. I know it’s a different bullet, but if it’s tip related you probably won’t have a sudden drop off with the all copper jacket. This is just my opinion and not pulling it from anything specific.

best way to clean dirty brass?

If it’s very dirty brass. Put it in the parts strainer, and swish it in a gallon of can of carb cleaner for about 20 seconds. Rinse it with water very well. New looking brass. Will be spotless.
