I looked into jumping straight into a 28 gauge for him. He's currently 7 but turns 8 at the end of the year. I was unable to find a 28 gauge that had a length of pull that would work on a kid that young. Most everything I found was Bantam sized and looks to be more around early teen sizing. The...
You know this reminded me of one absolute key component of this decision… my son is left handed and this 20G has the ability to me somewhat ambidextrous with the safety and charging handle being able to operate in both left / right hand configuration.
I purchased the Midnight Marsh color a few...
That was my idea with Turkey. Normally I use the Longbeard XR #6's but moving down to 20ga I might wince real hard and try the TSS loads. I know multiple people who have switched to the #9's and swear by them now.
Although I'm more of a lurker than a poster, this has always been my favorite corner of the internet so naturally, when I need enablement on a questionable firearm purchase, this is where I turn.
I've been eyeing a new shotgun for no *real* reason, which as we all know is the best possible...
You know thats a good idea. I have a Browning X-Bolt from the first few years they came out in 270. It was the hunter model with the simple wood stock and shorter barrel. I haven’t touched it in years and I really enjoyed shooting it. Outside of getting a new barrel for it what else would I be...
I know a handful of you guys have used these in the field. Anyone take anything thin skinned close range, 25-50 yards? Did the bullets get good expansion?
Loaded some middle of the road charges and ran them through my buddies Savage 308. My HMR was not happy today, I think something is wrong with the optic. Gun was shooting all over the place with known good ammo.
First time loading 130gr 308 bullets. Every load I did was a compressed charge...
Yeah I’ll keep the cases longer with these ones as well. I did I that with a 270 160gr Partition I loaded up this fall. The bullets seem to a have touch more nuances than some of the typical bullets I’ve reloaded. But, I think these are going to be excellent.
I’m going to build some dummy rounds at the full .050” off the lands and see how they cycle. With the chamber being longer than I expected I suspect I may have some magazine feeding issues.
My main concern with the numbers was the bullet seated enough in the cartridge, 2 of the 3 grooves were...
Thank you guys for the replies! I think I will start at the Barnes COAL length and start making jumps towards my lands rather than jumping back from the lands.
Good thing is I’m drowning in 308 powder. I think on hand I have TAC, Benchmark, BL-C(2), Varget, TAC, Win 748 and some Win Staballs...
Really looking forward to trying it out. I also have a old Winchester Model 100 that was my grandfathers. I've never got a load to shoot better than 1.8ish but I know it likes lighter bullets. I might try one last ladder with that rifle and these bullets.
I feel like this is committing a cardinal sin here...
I've been listening to a few of the Barnes podcast episodes and they peaked my interest in their light weight .308 130gr TTSX bullet. Ive mostly reloaded to recommended COAL lengths through the years, but I know the Barnes bullets like to be...
I went through all of this and I ended up tabling it because I found a good deal (lol) on a Rem 7600 .270 Deluxe with engravings.
In another month or so, I'll be fishing again. I think I settled on the Weatherby 307!
I appreciate all the help guys. Going to toss this around and do some research. I have a 300 win mag in a 2010 era Savage Model 111 which does everything quite well.
I have this uncanny ability to go from a Ruger G2 American will be a great rifle for a new caliber to lets build a custom rifle...
