270 wsm

I'm having a 270 wsm built on a Defiance xm+ med action. 22" barrel, 7.5 twist. I am looking for powder and primer recommendations for a 165gr nosler accubonds LR or 170gr berger elite hunter and adg brass
Welcome to the forum, sounds like a super nice build. Hope you keep us up to date on how it turns out for you.

I don't have a 270 WSM but do have a 6.8 Western. Based on that and my experience with a very similar round look at Retumbo, N 560, N 565, Magpro or even H 4831sc. You should be able to get a bit more speed over the 6.8 Western if it's set up the same way with the bullets loaded out more.

Welcome to the forum.
I don't have my 270wsm anymore, but when I did the heaviest bullets I loaded were 150g ABLR. I used RL26, Magpro and IMR 7828, with CCI LRM primers.
Retumbo and Magnum should work well too.

That is the plan with the medium action to be able to shoot the heavier bullets while keeping good velocity.

I started with 22, used a lot of 25, Retumbo, Magnum, H1000, 7828, 26, and some others I’m probably forgetting. The 270 was and always has been pretty easy. All of them got 150’s up over 3100 without too much trouble. Some knocked down 3200 with 150’s. Still one of my favorites.

I have a reamer, action, stock, etc to build the same thing when I get a barrel. I would focus on the slowest powders like N570 and Retumbo but N565 and H-1000 would work as well.

My current 270 WSM (LH Browning X Bolt All Weather with 23" Barrel 1:10) has proven itself with factory ammo with 140 gr bullets so far, with the Nosler AccuBond and Federal Trophy Bonded Tip both producing 100 yard, 3-shot groups of 0.565" and 0.396", respectively.
As I have other rifles/cartridges more suitable for heavier bullets, I have not tried loading the 165 gr or heavier ones, and I do not think the twist rate of my rifle's barrel will do as well with the heavies.
So far powders such as VN 560, 568 and 570, MagPro, Magnum and Re-25 (assuming one can find some) show promise for developing handloads with these two bullets., and from what has been stated above, should also do well for the heavies.
Nice to know you have a good choice of powders to see which will perform best in your new rifle.
Best of luck in your quest!
