Africa 2026

So far, pretty good. I avoided a herd of elk crossing the highway about 10miles from the house. Would have made a good scene in a car chase movie. Made it to Boise in fine style after that.
Been sitting on the runway for 1/2 hour, that's going to cut my connection short in Atlanta. But I'm not going to complain.

I thought I flew out on the 14th.
No. I arrive in Port Elizabeth on the 14th. Good thing I checked my tickets.
Tonight I’m in Africa Sky.

This uncouth heathen is not used to this level of refinement.
I never grew out of my sixteen cowboys in an eight dollar room mode.

Wait till you get to your hunting lodge/room. You’ll think you died and went to heaven. They know how to cater to American hunters and their families!
Long flight from Atlanta to Joburg. I hope
You got Some extra legroom seats!

Had a good seat got some sleep but little after I got to the hotel, City Lodge, don't even leave the terminal. Pre approved on the rifle made it easy. Walked by a guy from Texas I guessed trying to explain the second amendment to three RSA cops. Saw him later, we had already had a couple beers and dinner. His wife was actually flipping him off from the far side of the lobby. I'm sure they will have a great trip.
Woke up a little while ago found my Swarovski NLPure had been stolen out of my checked bag.not sure what delta will do for me. I might try to get a little sleep before me flight to Port Elizabeth, I've bad jet lag😊

sorry to hear about the Swaro's going missing , that really stinks . hopefully that's the end of the bad stuff .

Okay, my camera, lenses and binos will go in my carry-on. Hopefully the 375 Model 70 makes it in checked baggage... Gulp!

Had a spot of bother getting to the lodge, we saw a huge elephant, 80 pounder, off the highway a bit. That looked like a good bull says I. Should we go have a look, says my PH, Mark. Our distraction proves our undoing, hit an enormous pot hole blow a tire, head for camp after a bit, but take a detour to get a replacement tire. Finally leave the pavement cross a cattle guard running low on shooting light. We're good here says Mark, let's get your rifle out, just in case. We're still a solid 30 minutes from the lodge. I'm fighting off sleep deprivation lm Not seeing every thing mark is seeing, we stop and look at a good Lechwe. He's looking at us from 600. Light is fading, Mark wisely says we probably can't get closer from here, we'll come look for him in the morning in better light. He's pretty good but I want a better look. We are under head lights when we arrive, been dodging kudu Impala wort hogs springbok and Cape buffalo over the last 15 minutes of driving. Springbok for dinner compliments of a young couple in camp. They have been doing very well, four days and they've seven animals in the salt.

Yep, could have gotten the binos in but I was being a little too optimistic. Gun and ammo made it fine. Did you get clearance to go?

My room, very warm And comfortable, A bit spartan perhaps but I'm paying for a hunt on one million acres of free range. Been warned to watch out for a Cape buffalo when I get up in the morning. What the hell I am up. Need to get another hour if I can!
