6mm Creedmoor

I have been considering buying one of these in a Tikka (my preferred brand) and have been reading/watching articles and videos on the subject. Depending on the source, some say it's fantastic, especially at longer range due to heavier bullet stability, while others are meh and say the 243 is just as good. It would be used for informal target shooting (no PRS) and whitetail hunting.

I already have a 1-8 243 Tikka sporter barrel but have limited trigger time on it.

I kinda have a heavy barrel in mind and would not be adamantly opposed to another 243. A consideration is that I am already set up to load 243 but would have to buy dies, brass, etc, for a Creedmoor.

Anyone have real world experience to share?

I apologize in advance as I can't speak to the 6mm Creed specifically; however, I think that some parallels can be drawn to my experience. I too was interested in some new "high BC" type cartridges, so I compared and contrasted them with some of my favorites (7-08 v 6.5CM, 270 WSM v 6.8 Western, 243 Win v 6mm CM, etc..). In almost every case the older traditional cartridge had more horsepower (larger case w/ more velocity) than the new counterpart within most hunting ranges. I also have a copious amounts of dies and reloading components for the older cartridges and don't want to start over. IMO, the Tikka offering the 1/8 barrel in .243 Win seals the deal. In my experience, Tikka has a fairly generous free bore so you may be able to use the heavier 6mm projectile especially if you get a long action bolt stop corelating magazine.

I am also in favor of getting a new rifle just cause...

The 6mm Creed is a simple creature , just feed it Berger 105gr Hybrids with RL-17 or H4350 in good brass and enjoy.

I have built (3) 6CM, and they are easy to get great accuracy with velocity with 103 ELD-X and H4350. One of my close friends harvested a nice Idaho muley last year with the one I built for him. Also, I would encourage looking at the 25 CM too (built several of these too with 128 ELD-X). I really enjoy Shilen barrels with the Ratchet rifling for the 22CM, 6CM and 25CM. Anthony with CrownRidgeBarrelWorks turns out great barrels for Tikka's

Overlapped with a family group when in Africa end of May. Couple of young teens shooting a 6 creedmore. The kids shot well, the trackers were kept busy, 100 yard death run kind of thing. Kudu was the top end and eland was too much. There was much talk about what an easy rifle to shoot and reload for.

Well, I did it. I ordered a Tikka Roughtech this morning and should be able to pick it up early next week. I decided to go with the sporter barrel with hunting scenarios in mind.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to my research project. I have also ordered 100 pieces of Norma brass and the same number of 105 gr Bondstrikes.
