Africa 2.0

That'll be their summer and the heat! Not for me! (although it would be neat to tag along on your buffalo hunt!)
And I may have to take the trip and use my rescheduled flights before the end of May 2027; still waiting on confirmation of details.)
Heat?
What heat? I’m from Aridzona. It’s not heat until it’s north of 114 degrees Fahrenheit.

Not that we do not high of 40 degrees C here in Canada...but those are the lazy dog days of summer when even a dog has the sense to seek out the shade and not go traipsing for 😎 miles after game while baking in the hot sun!
And those are our long, cold winter days, so a big shift in temps to expose ones' self too...I wouldn't be acclimated to the heat as you would be!

An update on Susan and my recovery...

Susan was discharged from the hospital in Dawson Creek on July 1st and spent 3 weeks at my Mom's in Pouce Coupe just outside Dawson Creek. She came home on July 22 as my Mom drove me to Vancouver to see a plastic surgeon for ongoing wound care for my leg. Her ribs are still bothering her, with the worst broken one still quite painful. Her shoulder has a lot of nerve damage and damage to the muscles and rotator cuff still bothering her. It will be some weeks yet for her recovery. We have a homemaker coming in to assist with cleaning.

I was discharged from the Dawson Creek hospital on July 20th, and spent a day at my Mom's before heading to Vancouver on the 22nd, for my appointment with the plastic surgeon on July 24th. They put a vac pac on my wound, and I spent another 13 days in the hospital there, and was released on August 5th and flew back to Fort St John, where my mother picked me up and brought me back to my house. I have ongoing wound care for the leg every 3 days.
I have been weight bearing (limited) on the shoulder for a few weeks now, and am still not weight bearing on the leg. I was unable to use crutches yet on July 20th, but as of August 6th can now use them for short trips within the house, but am using the walker more often as my muscles get used to being used again, and my balance gets better. For longer trips within the hospital, or out and about town now, I am still using the wheelchair with assistance. So, I spent 78 out of the first 82 days since the accident in hospital, 3 days in transit between hospitals, and one day in a home setting. Feels good to be home finally! (They installed a handicap ramp on my house so I do not have to do the steps!)
The shoulder is still weak and sore, and the plate will need to come out (minor surgery). Due to being on anti-clotting meds for a minor deep vein thrombosis in the lower left leg at the break and wound area, the surgery may be delayed until November.
The wound and skin graft are doing pretty well overall, but it will take some time for the DVT to resolve, the flexor tendon the heal, and the flesh wound and broken tibia to completely heal.
The Dr said today that he wants more x-rays next week to get an update on the broken tibia, and my visit with the orthopaedic surgeon on the 25th determine how much longer I will be before weight bearing on the leg, and returning to work on a modified work plan.

Otherwise, we are continuing to get better everyday, and are happy and enjoying being home! And enjoying homemade meals again!

Thank you for the update . best wishes for things to get better quickly for you and Susan . Keep your faith , and a positive outlook . God is good .
