I read "somewhere" (as in I did read it but only God knows where) that Hodgon Superperformance powder works well in 348 Winchester. Does anyone have experience/knowledge about this.

Does the latest edition of the Hornady reloading handbook (12th) have 348 Winchester data? 348 Winchester data with any new powders?
Currently my most accurate load uses H4831sc and my highest velocity was with H4895, 100fps faster but not as accurate. These are loads with the old Hornady 200gr bullet.

NB. I have lots of the old Hornady bullet, Barnes X bullets Barnes classics and a few boxes of Northfork bullets.

Cheers, gonna go clear bush and then reload.

Super should work fine. I’ve seen everything from 4895 to 4831 work great. I use a lot of RL17 in mine which is right in line with Super as far as burn rate.

It looks like HODGDON has a lot of Data for the .348, including some of the “newer” powders but none for Superperformance. Cartridge probably just isn’t in the “slot” they envision the powder for.
Long ago H4831 was top performer for Ken Waters in his Pet Loads on it.

Great Cartridge, have fun

This might be where you saw that. Under tue handloading paragraph.
I know Hornady states that the powder should only be used in cartridges they recommend. Where I’ve used it , it works fine. My lot is definitely slower than RL-17 or similar powders.

Thanks! that is where I read it.I have used H4831sc for years. I tried RL17 but never found a accurate load for my rifles. I am reluctant to spend myuch time developing loads with RL powders as they are very hard to find in Canada, so I use them only in situations where I don't plan to use a lot over time. I have tried IMR 4350, Varget and H4895 and have had good results with H4895 of late. My long time load of H4831sc gives me 2400fps with the old Hornady bullet. It is accurate (1.5" 3 shot groups at 100 yds) and has dropped every black bear I've shot with it, ranges from45 to 150yds.

Cheers!

I’ve used a lot of 17 in my 348 and still do. I’d use Super in a heartbeat if I needed to though. Take a look where it falls in burn rate and drop to the fastest listed powder for charge shown and work up. I know it’s nice to have book data but sometimes a little caution can get it done.

I am interested in hearing the velocity/accuracy results you are getting with RL17 (Hornady FP and/or Barnes Classic, and in the best of worlds the long discontinued Barnes X bullets. Velocity values will help me with working up loads. The Reloader powders are very hard to find in my area so I use H4831sc,H4895, and H4350 for my loads.I use H4350 for my 6.5 Creedmoor load so I use it instead of IMR4350 as a matter of convenience.I load for a Winchester 71 rifle and a Browning 71 carbine by the way.

Reloader 19 most excellent with 200 Hornady FN and 250gr Barnes FN in 348 Win Win 71.

A buddy was just telling me about a M71 that might be available but it might be cost prohibitive. Apparently the owner turned down a $2000 offer.
The 348 Win is pretty cool.
