My only Remington 700BDL that's been a bummer.

I purchased a new Remington 700BDL in .25-06 last year. I've had it glass bedded, the barrel floated and trigger lightened all to no avail. I'm an experienced bench shooter and hand loader, and nothing seems to work. Even my Nosler Bal. Tips which usually perform very well won't cut it in...

    Best Varmit rifle/Caliber out there

If your wife is going to be using the rifle you might give some thought to its weight. My Remigton VLS, while a very good shooting varmint rifle weights about 12lbs. My custom .22-250 runs about 13lbs. Neither is very appropriate for a woman to lug around woodchuck fields unless you have a...

    25 06 85gr BT Reloader 19 powder?

Hello varmint_master, I use Rel19 57.0grs with the Nosler 85gr. Bal. Tip. I have a new Remington 700BDL in .25-06 and thus far it's one of the few bullets that shoots well from it. I think it might have a bum barrel but am not certain. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    Hey Nosler,125gr .308 Ballistic Tip ????

Nosler please do not discontinue the .308 125gr. Bal. Tip. I have a Browning Micro-Medallion in .308Win. It weighs exactly 6.0lbs, with a short 20", light barrel and a 1 in 12" twist. It'll group at .572" (5 at 100yds.) fairly reliably and has a MV of 3175fps. It's far and away the most...

    Primers?

I use Federal 205M and 210M and also use Remington 7 1/2 and 9 1/2. Quite honestly I see no difference between them. The Federals cost quite a bit more though. I see few people preferring Remigton primers in the past several years. Is there some reason why that someone knows of? Maye you can...

Rifle Bullet recommendations 7mm-08, and ,25-06 (please)

So far as the .25-06Rem. is concerned I think the 100gr. bullet is generally considered the most accurate. At least a couple years ago it was. That could have changed since we've had a lot of improvement in our bullets in recent years. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    Which reloading dies to buy?

I reload for 16 calibers, and all my dies are Redding S bushing, neck sizing dies or Wilson neck sizing knock out dies. I think they're the two best made. The only problem is neither bump the shoulder back, and sometimes you'll have to bump it back, in which case you'll need a body die. Best...

    Primers?

I use only two brands, Remington and Federal. I never see any difference between them except the Federals cost more. My group sizes are pretty much the same regardless of which I use. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    Nosler Brass Quality?

I switched to Lapua and Norma in the calibers I own that they make brass for because I was disgusted with US made brass. It's not just the primer pocket protrussion of metal. Part of the time I can't even get the tool to enter the primer pocket to remove the projection. It's just sloppily...

    Savage Hunter vs. Savage Varmint

This is merely my own experience mind you, but I find most sporter weight barrels will shoot just as well as the heavy barrels for the first few shots. After that the thinner barrel heats up more and is apt to toss the bullets around a bit. This seems true with many hunting weight barrels...

Remington 700 SPS Stainless - Need Advice for MOA Shooting

The gunsmith who works on my rifles told me recently that Remington apparently has made some changes to their triggers on the model 700. He couldn't get me most recent one down below 3 lbs. He used to get them down to around 1.5lbs. which is where I prefer them seeing as how most of my...

    anyone using N550

I use VihtaVouri 550 in my 6.5x55 with 108,123 and 139gr. Lapua Scenar bullets. It's quite the accurate powder. When I load up the 160gr. bullets I switch to VV560. The VV line of powders gives me excellent results. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    303 projies

I have a British SMLE Nr. 1 Mk4 in .303 but prefer the lighter bullets for deer. I get my best results with Speer 150gr. PSP pushed along by IMR4895 42grs. The Speer 180gr. RN is quite accurate also with IMR4064 40.7grs. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    25 06 85gr BT Reloader 19 powder?

I use the Nosler 85gr. Bal. Tip pushed along by Rel-19 57grs. It givdes me 3600fps and is pretty accurate. My rifle is a Remington 700BDL. I imagine it will group quite a bit smaller. The rifle is new, and I'm still load testing. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    Powder Choice for Competition?

I suspect Varget may be your best option. All my competition rifles are .224s, and my best results come with VihtaVouri133. Until them I had used IMR4198 for a number of years. IMR4895 has been known to produce good results also in the smaller calibers. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    Nosler vs. Sierra stats?

I have Hart SS barrels on my .222Rem. Mag. and my .22-250, and a couple of .222Rem. with heavy chrome-moly barrels. All shoot very well, usually in the .2"s and .3"s. I started using 50 & 55gr. Balistic Tips last year and have been pleasantly surprised to find they shoot just as well as my...

    New son-in-law needs a lefty

I also am a left-handed shooter and used to scurry about finding a rifle due to limited selection. Then I discovered the vast majority of my shooting is at the bench. The right handed action is much better since the action opening is right there only a few inches away. It's an added plus, but...

Flat base Balistic Tips in 6mm?

I didn't even know the Balistic Tips came in a flat base configuration. I recently bought a box for my 6mm Rem. and was quite surprised to find they were not boat tails. Are the Balistic Tips made in flat base now in other calibers? Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

Cartridge length for 50 grain BAllistic Tip in 22-250

I'm a bit more conservative with my overall length. I use IMR4064 36.0grs. It gives me 3700fps, and groups usually around 2.86" (5 at 100yds). I seat the bullet out to 2.40". Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

    NEW FOR 2006

Most of my shooting is at the bench, and I've had excellent results with the Bal. Tips I've used in .224, .243, .264 and .308. I was wondering if Nosler would come out with a bullet to rival Sierra in .224. It looks like I'll know the answer to that shortly. Best wishes for continued success...
