It's a Caldwell Deadshot Fieldpod MAX. I needed a solid rest since we can shoot up to 700yds out of my shot house.
I bought one for my son to use when he was too small to hold a gun and really liked it, now that he's big enough I bought another for myself.
I already had a Ruger American Predator in 6mm Creed I bought out of curiosity and it shoots almost as good as the Fieldcraft so instead of doing another build I thought I would see if the Fieldcraft lived up to the hype and I must say I'm a fan.
I was thinking matching Creeds but didn't want...
I've been wanting a 6mm Creed in a Fieldcraft for a while so when Cabela's had a sale I decided to take the plunge and with my Cabela's points I came out pretty well.
I put a SWFA SS 3-15x42 Tactical Rifle Scope on it I snagged on sale with some Talley Lightweights and so far I'm very...
Shot this 8pt yesterday @ 236yds using 67gr of RL-7 orange MMP sabot and the 300gr Barnes Original. Load chronographs at 2,336ft/s. very impressed with this combo.
Bullet retained 215.6 grains.
Time for a update....I loaded three different loads 57.5, 58.0, and 58.5 all with new brass with the exception of one and that was one of the 57.5 cases. Temp was 60 degrees. I started with the 57.5 load, fired two shots no marks on cases or flattened primer's everything was good. I then fired...
Wouldn't there be issues with factory ammo as well if its a head space issue? Last year I loaded 139gr SST's, 120BT with RL19 and never had a issue. The 139gr load was over max and I did get pressure signs before backing off and settling on a load....wouldn't I have had a problem then as well...
I have been loading my .280 with 58.5gr of RL17 and the 120gr BT. Accuracy and speed have been outstanding. I checked the speed on these this spring and the temp was about 65 degrees, Saturday the temp was 58. I had not had any pressure signs until Saturday. I shot three shots and didn't notice...
I finally got around to shooting my .280 and the 120BT with a good dose of RL17. I think I have found my load for opening weekend here in Tenn. next Saturday. Three clicks to the left, another session on the bench to verify and I am ready. I had chronographed this load earlier at 3,308ft/s...
My good friend owns a large gun store and has finally started expanding his reloading department. I have been on him about getting more primers, powder, and a broader range of bullets etc. So he has gotten every kind of powder, and primer out and stock piling it since it is getting harder to...
Finally got to do a little shooting through the Pro Digital Chronograph today with my .280 Steyr. The load of 59.5gr of RL-19 and the 120BT was very disappointing @ 3,052fps. However, I did load up some RL-17, Fed 210GM primers and the 120BT and was very impressed.
58.0gr RL-17= 3,267fps
58.5gr...
Steve Timm is very fond of the little 120gr BT in fact had this to say about using it;
"Heck, I don't know. I've killed two six-point bull elk, a slew of Montana mulies, a few 140/150-ish whitetails and a bunch of prairie goats with the 120 Ballistic in the 7-08 Ackley.
I've also blasted a...
