I have contacted a gunsmith and will be taking it to him to fix. BTW I know what is wrong! I was just wanting some of the good folks on this boards opinions on what to do about it. Also, you do not have to read my threads on every board especially if they have the same subject. Thanks for taking...
I got my Talley Lightweights, so I went to put the scope on it and the front base screw hole is not drilled out enough it is only .089" deep. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to send it back because of the wait. I could shorten the screw but I don't like to think of having a gun...
I picked it up this week and I can't wait to try out some 100gr PT, 100gr TSX and maybe some 110AB's. I am waiting on a Timney to replace the factory trigger then I should be set. I have a set of Talley lightweights ready to go on it and a 4.5-14x40 VXIII. Does anyone recommend Retumbo for the...
I use the Hornady Light Mag in a 308 shooting the 150gr SST's and regular Spire points out of my Steyr SBS and they both shoot 1/2" @ 100yds. I have never checked speed but with them shooting like that why bother. :)
I guess I had higher expectations out of the .280. Most of the gun writers have talked about the .280 nearly duplicating the 7mm Mag. as far as ballistics and that most companies have loaded it down. I felt like that since I was reloading I could get more velocity than factory. I was looking for...
I am very happy don't take me wrong. I have always said accuracy first, speed is just a plus. However, I was just a little disappointed. I am very happy with the groups but I thought speeds would be higher after looking at both the Nosler and Hornady manuals as well as other reloading sites.
I shot a couple of loads out of my Steyr .280 yesterday with 57gr of Rl-19 which is max load in the Nosler book. I was using 139gr Hornady SST's .020 off the lands, this particular load shot .710" which is great considering this is the time I have ever worked up a load for this rifle. I then...
Jeff,
I never Chrono a load until I find the one that I am going to use. I will then check the speed. As I stated before accuracy first then speed, if that load combination is the fastest it's just a plus.
I saw someone shoot a 120# deer at 160yds with the 125gr Speer TNT @ 3,515 fps through the point of the shoulder in a 300WSM and it was very very impressive. The deer bounced off the ground it hit so hard. However, I would choose to only shoot a deer behind the shoulder using such a light...
That would be awesome for a 130 or 125gr Accubond or Partition in .308. I too would love to see this. My question is why do manufacturers make a bullet such as the Accubond or any other bonded bullet then only offer them in the heaviest bullets especially if they are built for higher velocity's?
SOTN,
I think all the factory WSM's are loaded down now, compared to when they first came out. I think this was a big reason why they became so popular so fast. I know I love both of mine. I understand the issues with pressures and respect your input but to each his own on the way they check...
I see what you are saying however, In a Shooting Times article on the 270WSM the shooter was getting 150fps more velocity with a Savage than he did with a Tikka with his handloads as well as factory loads and the loads were all the same. So if what you are saying is correct he should have backed...
I get great performance with 150gr. Interbonds and my velocity is 3336. My gun will consistently shoot these under 3/4". I have some 150 Accubonds but have not yet shot them in place of my Interbonds I would assume they would shoot just as good.
SOTN,
Did you not read the above post where I had replied to yeayow? For your info I loaded some 270WSM with Magpro and got 3,353 with 130gr Interbonds with no pressure signs, no regular 270 will do that. So to say that the 270WSM is no better than the 270 is crazy. BTW I am not trying to...
yeayow,
No problem, I really didn't take it to heart I knew you were just trying be informative. When I seen the speed on those loads I was just wondering if it was possible I knew I had not seen any published load data to support this type of speed. However, I am getting 3,336 out of my 300WSM...
