Thanks, Rick. Personally, I don't care to turn necks; if there's too much neck thickness variation, there'll likely be variation elsewhere in the case as well.
I understand I don't need half-inch groups in a hunting rifle, but I enjoy developing them. I have found that neck thickness...
I just had a disappointing batch of Winchester brass - neck thicknesses varied tremendously. I measure neck wall thickness at three or four points arount the neck, and set aside any that exceeds 0.0015" from max to min. On the recent batch of 270 Win, I had to discard 19 of 50 cases. (In fact, I...
I suspect RL22 drops off quite a bit when the weather gets colder. I know the pressure goes up when the temperature rises. It was enough of a problem for me that I gave away a pound and a half of the stuff and moved to the Hodgdon Extreme line, which has less temperature sensitivity. At least I...
Yeah, mine was a Forster, too, in 7-08. They couldn't believe it needed to be ground off as much as I asked, and so returned it to me with .003 off. Wasn't enough, and it went back again. (I'd been pretty sure how much off I needed, as I measured it with th eheadspace capability of the RCBS...
Yeah, I did, too, with a 7-08 sizing die. I had to send it back twice to get it shortened so that the die would even touch the shoulder. I think we moved it 0,007."

Fred, that would be true if I were looking to see the best performance for my loads, but as I mentioned in this case, it's a hunting load, fired at hunting speed - three shots, no cool down. Had I cooled the barrel and chamber down during tests, I would only have discovered the...
darkknight,
My problem with RL22 was at the other end - hot weather. I load in my basement at around 70F, and my shooting sometimes is above 90F - I started seeing excessive pressure signs. Yeah, I know, back off a grain for hotter weather, but how do you work up a load for Fall hunting like...
I second the request. Regardless of the benefits of standard powders, I've shifted all my reloading to the temperature-insensitive type. It would be great to see Hodgdon Extreme powders reflected in Nosler suggested loads.

Add me to the wish for 6.5X55, with the .479" head diameter that Lapua uses.
I guess I just killed that deal - here's what I want, and, oh, by the way, please introduce a new head size...

The concept behind higher density is uniformity of burn, caused by the small, consistent powder surface exposed to the primer flash. Low density loads might sometimes have powder up against the flash hole, but other times exposing a long, horizontal surface to the flash. The latter will burn...
I'm not entirely certain that a grain difference is undetectable. I agree the weight itself is relatively meaningless, but if the OAL of the bullet is constant, the weight sometimes manifests itself as a difference in ogive placement, and that makes a difference in distance to lands.
I went...
Thanks, Pop. I was aware of the Grafs, for instance, but it appears that only the expensive dealers (including high shipping costs as a part of this) maintain a stock of the 125g Parts. That's the basis of my question about filling the "pipeline." I hoped NOSLER could address teh production...
sqirrelsniper,
Yes, I believe that was his point, too. He advocates use of a chronograph to determine velocity, which is a very reliable indicator of pressure.

I understand Nosler has the happy problem of having a high demand on Accubonds also bleed over into a high demand also for the Partitions. They're in short supply (or assoicated with very high shipping charges.) Can you tell when you'll be able to fill the pipeline for the .264 125g Partitions...
Nosler,
I believe you misunderstood the thrust of su35's question. The writer, John Barsness, was not advocating ignoring the traditional pressure signs. His point was that by the time you reach that far, you're already at 70,000 psi, so you should try hard never to get "tradtitional pressure...
