    6.5-06 issues

Wisconsinteacher, Not to pry, but what is the rifle and its stock? I had this issue once and it was a bedding problem. Had a smith rebed and lighten the trigger pull and the rifle and it has been super since then. Smith did the work, so I'm not sure what he checked and or the exact problem...

    Brake or not to brake????

Best I can suggest is to forgo the brake, see how it shoots and go from their. It shouldn't add a lot of money to get a brake installed down the road as opposed to now - but check with your smith. If the build is a super lightweight - sub 6.5 lbs total weight - a brake might make sense. I...

Deer Loads for the 30-06 165 gr BT

Outside of H or IMR 4350, IMR 4451 and Staball 6.5 would be two additional powders to consider. IMR 4831 might be worth looking at if you have it on hand - but either 4350 should be a better fit. Staball 6.5 is giving very good velocities out of a 22" barrel and 150 grainers - 3100+ fps in...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Wish I could scrounge up some 120 BT's for you 358 - you might want to check https://www.natchezss.com/nosler-ballis ... 50-ct.html. Diver, I won't argue the ballistics of the 6.5x55 to the "Crudmoor" or 260 Rem. I sure can't tell a difference between them, other than the 6.5x55 does better...

    RL-23 in 280 AI with Scirocco's

Thanks for the response. I agree with - "...usually once you find the nodes you can match that speed with any powder that'll safely attain it and come out with about the same accuracy." I've seen that with two 30-06's and a 280 Rem. I won't argue the slow rifle aspect, just a simple off hand...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Thanks for the load data 358 WCF. That is good shooting with both the PPU's and BT's. Where the BT's you shot with H4895 as well?

    RL-23 in 280 AI with Scirocco's

Thanks SJB358. I agree it is giving up a bit and would expect a node around 59 grains. Rifle has generally been slow - 57.5-59 grains of H4831sc (lot dependent) and 160 grain Accubonds only gives 2700 or so fps. Accuracy has been good to great though, so I'm happy to deal with the slowness...

    RL-23 in 280 AI with Scirocco's

Quick update, the 150 grain ABLR are actually just Accubonds and I did not try loading any due to time constraints this weekend. The 150 grain Scirocco's were tested from 55.5, and then half grain increments from 56.5 to 59 grains of RL-23. They are basically seated just off the lands, and...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Quick update. Velocities are going to be low for today compared to the last update - cloudy / wet conditions today and I'm using an optical chrony. The 130 game changers provided 4 shots within 1" at 175 yards and clocked 2700 fps with 38.5 grains of Varget. With virgin Starline brass, I'm...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Thanks for the help. I called Talley while at the range this morning. After explaining my issue the rep said that it was not working as designed. I was on the phone for about 25 minutes with the rep and he had me run through a bunch of measurements and level checks. All measurements looked...

JJS405, thanks. Photo their is where I linked to in my OP. That page is what I believe is telling me that I have a problem.

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

JD338, do you mean scope angled down? Thank you for the vote of confidence. It still seems backwards to me - my thought process is as follows: 1. Crosshairs chase bullet impact. 2. Bullets hit low at extended range. 3. So how does moving my crosshairs down at 100 yards help me when I...

Myth of the MOA hunting rifle

Sgt H is reporting what a lot of snipers have done in the past. The need to keep and maintain log books of how a rifle and the rifleman shoot in all conditions. The test he prescribed is very much valid for log-book creation... I'm not looking to stir the pot, but I remember a story by a grunt...

Redding neck bushing for new Nosler 280 Ackley brass

Can't give a direct answer as I'm not using a Redding, but I would second what JoelK wrote. I'm using a Lee Collet Die, standard mandrel provides about 0.002 neck tension and works well for me. Best groups using 160 grain Accubonds were with extremely low tension... Work hardened brass that...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

It was suggested that I shoot it at 175-200 yards and see where the bullet impact. If the impact is lower than the 100 yard impact, than I have a mechanical issue. If the impact is higher at 175-200 yards, than I'm getting an education. Base height data looks fine to me, expecting a 0.3-0.35...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Pretty sure. Long action Rem 700 base hole lengths are different. I did check that screw holes were correct, longer in front and shorter spacing in the rear. I wanted to rule out a receiver issue. Bases have arrows pointing to the muzzle and installed looks like the photos. I did take the...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Scope has 70 moa range, usable is about 60. When using 0 moa, the 30 is insuffient to barely feasible for 1000 yards with the 20" 6.5 Creed I am playing with. Issue is the 20 moa rings moved bullet impact down, I was expecting bullet impact up. Everything I have read says bullet should impact...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Planning on my standard 250 yard zero. Have access to a 500 yard and 980-1280 yard range and am currently playing with a 6.5 Creedmoor. Trying to get the bugs worked out before making a 4hr drive to the long range. My 280 AI and M1's are a hoot up their.

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Still having a tough time with this. Bullet impacted 23" or so low at 100 yards, was expecting bullet to hit high. Crosshairs moved down, bullet hits higher... Rather than reley on the turret markings, I pay attention to and move crosshairs. I have had turrets work in reverse. Ir seems that I...

I am not understanding 20 MOA rings

Hi, I just acquired a set of 20 moa Talley rings for a Sauer 100 rifle which uses Rem 700 rings. When changing over from 0 moa to the 20 moa rings, I had to move the crosshairs down. I was expecting to move the crosshairs up, due to the scope being angled down -...
