I have a few friends that have 35 whelens. Their rifles have a 1-14 twist. I would'nt have thought a twist that slow would stabilize a 250 gr. bullet but it does. I think remington 35 whelen rifles have a 1-174 twist too.
What is the difference in trajectory between a 7mm 160 gr. accubond at 2900 f.p.s and a 7mm 150 gr. partition at 3025 f.p.s. when both are sighted in at three inches high at 100 yards? I'm curious as to this difference out to 500 yards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would imagine that getting it to expand at a low velocity would be the problem. I doubt that you could get it going fast enough to make it over expand.
What was the muzzle velocity of your load? I'm going to try the 160 gr. accubonds in my 7mm saum. They look like they're the real deal. Also, what scope do you have on your rifle?
I just bought some 160 gr. accubonds for my 7mm saum. I think I'm going to settle on H-1000. According to hodgdon's data this powder will get me close to 3000f.p.s. I got 3015 f.p.s. with remington factory loads loaded with the 160 gr. partition. I would like to try IMR-7828-ssc but I can't find...
In the data I have it shows 66 grs. of retumbo with a 175 gr. bullet going 2863. It also shows 67 grs. of H-1000 with a 160 gr. bullet going 2931. I just downloaded this data from Hodgdons web site. I'm going to try the H-1000 with 160 gr. bullets. My particular rifle, a remington 700 really...
Have any of you fellas tried h-1000 and 160 gr. accubonds in a 7mm saum? I purchased some in one of those hodgdon powder packs. There was also a powder in it called retumbo. Have any of you tried it? I just bought the 160 gr. accubonds, and they look impressive like they will really fly.
I contacted remington about this, and the xcr is available in the saum calibers. They did'nt advertise it on their web site. Also, they will probably be available in the sps and the cdl later in the year.
In the January '05 issue of Riflemagazine there are some loads for the 160 gr. accubond in the 7mm wsm
Hunter-62.5grs.-2937 f.p.s.
H-414 57 grs. 2865 f.p.s.
H-1000 69 grs. -2856 f.p.s.
H-4350 58 grs.-2857 f.p.s.
H-4831 62 grs.-2820 f.p.s.
Magnum 75 grs.-3071 f.p.s.
Retumbo 70.5 grs. 2850 f.p.s...
Sometimes factory ammo is loaded with a powder not available to the public, and factory velocities are'nt obtainable with current powders. I'm not familiar with the 7mm wsm, but it has to be similar to the 7 mm saum. Good luck! How do you like your short mag so far?
