I haven't chrono'd or shot any loads yet. I'm guessing the 130's should be in that ball park. I'm hoping to go out this week and pop a few rounds. I'm heading south on Fri for a week so I've got a few things to do before leaving.
My OAL is really pushing max at 2.830". Much more than that and the nose is bumping the front of mag well. This VLD is sitting WAY back off of the lands. So far, I'm afraid its just not going to have full potential and I'll have to use a TTSX or AB etc. It's 2.965" from ogive to lands on this...
I ended up putting in in a B&C M-40 style stock. It has the bedding block in it but I'm going to glass it in. There's still some "wiggle" room from the looks of it.
Loaded up some of the 130gr VLD's and 120gr TSX last night. Going to try and make it out to the range today.
I made up a dummy round after checking OAL to lands with the 130gr Berger VLD's. That's 0.130" longer than I can hold in the mag box. Guess all I can do is shoot and see but I'm guessing that's way too much of a jump for the ogive to the lands..
Thoughts?
I'll be starting a lot lower than that. I've found RL 22 to be heat sensitive also. One load I used with it in my 280 Rem was fine in the winter but when it warmed up to 95-100's, it was too hot and blew primers..

Are you sure you don't have the seating die screwed down too far, causing it to crimp the bullet in before its seated? Could be just the die needs adjusting? I screw my seat die down on the empty case then back it off 1/4 turn so its no where near the mouth when I seat my bullets.
Nice, will have to try some of those. I've ordered some Berger 168gr hunting VLD's..B.C. on those is a whopping 0.614 IIRC. found a load with RL22, 63.0gr launched it at 3000 FPS 0.60" groups which I'm betting can get much better.
That 458 should certainly do it. Bullets are plentiful etc. I was going to buy one before I got the 50 Wulf. Not sure how plentiful the brass is now for the 458. The 50 Wulf cases can be bought right from Starline..
I think taking the WSSM case, blow it to 35, 375 or 416 for the AR-15 would be fun to try out.
If I could just get some of Oly's bolts and bbl extensions.
No trouble at all. You can even do it with a Dremel.. Basically takes me 5 or 10 minutes tops..plus, that 458 isn't much of a long range chuck or yote round like that 243 WSSM!!
The 50 Beowulf uses standard 223/5.56 mags also. It shoots 50 cal pistol bullets. It's pretty much a 500 S&W mag...
The follower is a regular 223 that you take a ball mill to and take off the raised portion right up to the left feed lip. Then you have to lengthen the mag catch recess on the mag body to allow the mag to sit lower in the well.
