Let your individual "wobble zone" tell you, you can see in the xhairs and determine what works best for you.
Same thing shooting at game, I let MY "wobble zone" I am seeing in the scope decide for me whether or not I am in MY comfort zone to make each shot as opportunity comes. Every shooting...
Don't forget that at 45.5 grains H4350 speeds were avg of 3,404. I have not magneto speed checked again but would think at the 43.31gr velocity be near 3225 not 3068.
Planning on this weekend checking speed at 44gr but I think it will go in the 3,290+/- range.
Dwh7271,
Dwh I just noticed on this QL run you ran at OAL of 2.71" could I get you to run again at 2.61" to see what OBT and pressure predicts? Fixing to load some more test loads and move to OBT so just wanted to double check or is there enough difference to change results?
Reads accurate every shot and super easy to setup and use, just learn to deal with the POI shifts when working up loads. I will shoot a new load to check speeds, then when done developing load will verify fps and es again.
I really like both 4831's the IMR is faster when temps are warm but both are about the same velocity when its cold due to velocity loss with IMR. H4831 is prolly the best all around powder for the 280AI if you get accuracy you like, next up would be RL22.........
Would not have seen near the change if had stayed with Mag Primer like load was developed with, would have been some change but not to the degree you witnessed had you used Fed 215 or WLRM instead of going with "cooler" / lower brisance primer when you switched from CCI250 to using CCI200...
You may not get the the 80 TTSX to shoot well at that length, or at least I couldn't. After fighting with it at longer lengths I finally used Barnes data OAL of 2.61" and groups went to .5 to .7 moa. Just a thought. Seating to center up to top of first groove and all my issues were over. IMO...
Found what looks like could be an excellent load for a 20" barrel factory Remingtion 700 Mountain Rifle if any body has interest.
Load is 39 grains AR Comp
Fed 210
Nosler Brass
140 Hunting NBT
OAL 2.77"
Straight from Alliants 2015 Manual. First load tested in this gun. Did not get velocity but...
Just built load for the 140NP in 270 Win and it was real easy load to build up with RL23.
With Fed210 primers in Nosler brass I started at 54 gr and ended up at 57grains with velocity 2950+/-
I quit there because was scary accurate but can see 3,000fps being attainable, WAG???
There is no...
Yes Sir that is it..........Thank you so much!! I did not think I could reach 3rd node, so will come down some and see what closer to node 4 does, if anything. Will need to drop off bout .7gr to hit close to that.
Bedding and Floating will not help a stress induced barrel at all other than make it more stable for the first shot.
Just got done messing with a Remington 30-6 that is brand new and first to second shot would move 3" at a 100 yards (moved up and left but can move in any 360 degree direction...
I do too if shooting a stressed relieved barrel that will take some heat and not crawl away, but on factory made barrels they nearly all crawl in one direction as they heat!
On factory barrels I will sometimes shoot 2 back to back to make sure barrel is not just running away, LOL...... but have...
This is what has been so amazing to me, this is a new all factory Model 11 Trophy Youth with 20" barrel at 9.25 twist. In Savage plastic stock and it shoots near as good as any Brux barrel I got in the vault, only the 280AI is any more consistent.
Bought for easy to get around 100 yd gun and...
