Thought I'd share this with you guys. One of the clients at Great Northern Adventures used a Marlin 444 with 240 Gr. Rem cor-Lok factory ammo to shoot a 150 lb Cinnamon Bear . The range was 10 yards , the bear was on its hind legs reaching for a piece of Beaver , 1/4 to him slightly . He hit it...
The 45-70 was my grandfathers favorite cartridge , I always had in my mind someday I would pick one up. Last year I bought a Marlin 1895 guide gun it was new so I'm sure its probably a Remington , next time I pull it out maybe I'll have a look to see. I put a WW trigger in it as the stock...
I'm still going to try to talk her into a 06 her husband has a couple which might be why she kinda wants something different. What she said was she wants to have choices and not just hunt with one gun or caliber all the time and wants the gun to be hers . Elk , Moose and Bear will be on the menu...
I was talking to my friend today his wife wants to pick up a 2nd rifle . She has a model 7 7mm-08 shes a killing machine with it. She wants to hunt Elk , Moose , and Bear , she likes the 270. We had a conversation where I explain my own opinions that other than flattening the trajectory a bit...
Thanks to all . BK , yea it has a 23" barrel . I wanted a stainless Alaskan a couple years ago , but I kinda talked myself out of it . Most I've been seeing are $850.00 to $1000.00. There were 2 other 375 Rugers laying there on the table , a Guide gun and a African those were both marked...
Picked this up at a gun show NIB $600.00 out the door (375 Ruger) I just couldn't walk away from it for that price. I'm Looking forward to playing with it , I really don't have a need for it but I Had a 3x9 Bushnell 4200 looking for a place to land anyway so I guess that's as good a reason as...
SJB358 and Elkman , I hope I didn't make it sound like I think there unusable that's not the case, I hunt with them a lot . Over the last few years I have received several boxes that had bullets with badly damaged noses , big chips/gouges or flattened to the point I just shoot them , I wont even...
Guy , The 300 win kill was my brother's , yes it blew the leg right off , the range was around 50 yards . I think the bullet probably hit to the inside of the shoulder knuckle/joint and blew the bones out thru the hide on the entrance side , detaching the leg and deflecting the bullet up into...
Thought id report on some recent bullet performances on Whitetails
1. 165 gr. Rem corlok Factory load. Deer was 1/4ing toward shot hit the shoulder knuckle entrance hole , sorry no pic, was 4" blew the leg completely off the deer bullet then appeared to turn up and broke the backbone...
I use a RCBS concentricity Gage . Correcting bullet run out has made the biggest difference in my Hand load accuracy. I use a tool called a TruAngle. I just load my ammo as usual and add the TruAngle as my last operation. Its made a huge difference in my accuracy and constancy. I use to load and...
I should be guiding next year . We are still in the process of getting all set up up there. This year we had the guy that sold it to us help out and a local native for a guide. There's a lot to it , as owners , all of us will be able to guide but we will guide under a resident of Saskatchewan...
Myself and 3 friends bought a bear outfitting service in Saskatchewan. We were told the bears were big , lots of them and there not afraid of you. The fishing was said to be unreal . This was our first year going up to see the area, hunt it and see what we had. We just returned from 2 1/2 weeks...
Sako7STW,
Not sure on the velocity right now I will try to work up to 71 gr. My friend has a S2 also and his shoots that load really good. I expect it to be 3450+ @ 71 but I won't know for sure until I chrono it. I'll probably try a more temperature insensitive power to because I may...
Load was a starting load 69.0 RL22 100 gr. TTSX just did the length to max cart. OAL Weatherby's are free bored so can't really reach the lands so I new I was off them a ways. RL22 has always given me top velocity and good accuracy. I've tried TSX and TTSX in several rifles and calibers and...
Picked up a Weatherby Vanguard S2 SS/SYN in 257 Bee last week. Took it to the range first shot at 100 was 6-7" high dialed down shot 2 more couldn't see them walked down found both in the bull. Walked back gave myself a few min to catch my breath. Shot the 3rd shot could just see it at the top...
Almost forgot the coyote in Montana he didn't think much of the 300 RUM and the 168 TSX oh yea he was trotting and I was resting on a wobble fence post surprised I hit him at all.
DR.Mike we're WAY north , Trunor Lake Sask. think its about 40 miles north of Buffalo Narrows. Lots of Bear ...
For those who like such things shot a pig in Alabama with a 25-06 and a 100 gr. TTSX range about 70 yards pig 60 lbs. had about a nickle size exit . Guide told me if you don't hit bone they'll run and they wont bleed. I didn't hit bone it ran and it didn't bleed it made it about 60 yards...
Had a pretty darn good year started in Jan in Alabama with a pig and a torn meniscus , that part wasn't so good . Then first week of Nov. in Montana for Mule deer and pheasant , back worked 3 days then off to Saskatchewan for whitetail. Worked 6 days the whole month of November great month...
Hey apapro, I'm with you on the penetration I shoot the 225 Accubonds in a 338 Rum they defiantly hold together but they strip off there weight and don't penetrate that well especially up close. I've shot a Bear and a Whitetail with that combo I posted about it here...
