This new kid on the block 25-300wsm is not as good as you think it is. here is one that is as good and has been around for 50 years the 25-06 ackley will shoot an 87 grain at 3920 fps with about 12 grains less powder. -

If I took a heart, lung shot yes it would be very bad but like I said that is not where I hit them between shoulder & spine it only takes out a big chunk of back bone. I have never had other than DRT. -

Another thought how about a 25-06 Ackley with 85 grainers at 3920 fps only a few feet per second less than the 257 weatherby with 10 grains of powder less -

the 100 Btips is all I have ever used for deer in my 264 mag at 3680 fps for about 8 years now. always a DRT for me but the only place I shoot them is between the shoulder and spine no meat loss that way. -

start with the low mimium loads from 270 wsm and work up you should be ok. I have a 6.5 wsm and that is what I used. -

When I did it I didn't believe either and niether did my friend that was with me. and this is a as it come from Savage I bought it used at gun show for $235.00 and put a scope on it. this why I now have 5 Savages in different calibers. -
