Excellent performance! I shot an elk with a 180BT and it worked fine. I have hundreds of 180 ABs and hope to get the 180 ABs to fly well out of my Kimber MT. It's getting rebarreled now. So many good options for the 338 Fed. I have used the 160 TTSX extensively and it works really well at a MV...
To add, the above post is based on shooting deer, elk, hog and plains game with a mix of the 185 TTSX at ~2730 FPS and 160 TTSX at ~3050 FPS. If you could match the BC of the .338 180 AB (as measured by Brian Litz) with an all copper bullet that would really be a killing machine. I would like to...
I would really like a .338 180gn E-Tip. Based on my experience, I think there is merit to shooting lighter/faster when shooting a mono. Penetration remains adequate due to retained weight, but the extra speed enhances how far they open (it seems). If you could whip some of those together and...
They do perform well when they have some velocity on them. They are an odd design at the tip where the plastic is not flush with the copper. Seems like a larger plastic tip is in order.
I'm the same. Have a few old ones. If I'm going to work up a new load then I'd rather start with the current version not knowing how much, if any, difference there would be.
I saw your example, and it looked great. I have used 185 and 160 TTSXs (and a 180 BT) on elk and I have found there is some merit to lighter and faster when it comes to the mono bullets. However, I do want to give the 200 grain E-Tip a try. The picture of the E- tip opening at 1800 Fps on the...
Old thread, but reviving to see if anyone else has used the 200 E-Tip? I am looking to load them in my 338 Fed as well. Primary role would be elk in black timber. It would be very unlikely to ever have a shot over 300yds there. So far they've all been well under 100.
As a side note, I pulled a...
Is there a recommended minimum velocity for the 210 Partition? I don't see it listed they way it is for other such as the Accubond. I would think the softer tip makes it open at relatively velocities. 1800 is a common number, same for 210 Partition?
Those certainly look fine. I'm pushing them just a tad bit slower out of a 338 Fed. Hunting up at elevation I would hit 1800 FPS at ~500 yds which is plenty far for me, but just want the confidence it will open effectively at that velocity.
I noticed on the 200 E-Tip that the plastic tip does not smoothly align to the shape of the bullet. Basically the base of the plastic tip is smaller than the where the copper comes to a point, leaving a sharp angle out. I assume that odd shape is factored into the published BC of the bullet...
