Just picked up a NIB Browing A-Bolt in .243 Winchester today. Have been looking for one since they discontinued them and finally found one on Gunbroker. I thought this would be the perfect rig to start my two little boys on.
Topped it with a Leupold VXII 3-9X40mm for load development...will...
Seeing as the grains a so similar, would the 95 grain or 100 grain Partition tend to shoot better in a 1-10" twist .243 Winchester barrel? I was planning to try the 100 grain pills first, but wanted to get some opinions before starting the load development. Thanks.
It isn't the 200 grain you mention, but I'm getting great results on paper with the 225 grain Hornady Interlock. This load shoots under MOA in both my Browning A-Bolt and Browning BAR Safari II.
225 Grain Hornady Interlock
RL19 - 72.0 Grains
Winchester WLRM Primers
I use the same load with...
After loading multiple different bullet/powder configurations, these are the two loads that consistently shoot under 0.75" out of my Weatherby Mark V Fibermark:
100 Grain Barnes Tipped TSX
74.0 Grains H-1000
Federal Primers
3,425 FPS
115 Grain Barnes TSX
72.0 Grains H-1000

After multiple loads, bullets, powders, seating depths, etc. I've finally found a load that goes under MOA at 100 yards...
Funny thing is, the same load shoots the following bullets all right at 1": 180 Nosler PT, 180 Speer DeepCurl, 180 Sierra BTSP, and 165 Noster PT. Shooting 96.0 grains of...
Just purchased a .243 Winchester, in a Browning A-Bolt II Composite Stalker, from Gunbroker this weekend. Looking forward to getting it in and trying out some loads.
I'm hoping to shoot the 100 grain Partition. I'd like to use IMR 4350, IMR 4831, RL 19, or RL 22 - but not having loaded for...
I have a 3-9X40mm, with the Accu-Range reticle mounted on a Remington 700, .300 Ultra Mag. It's been a great scope so far, and has easily handled the beating that the .300 RUM produces. With the Forever Warranty I'm not worried at all. Leupold hit a home-run with this scope and price range.
Thanks, JD. Took your advice and loaded them to 3.650". Longer than the Nosler manual suggests, but still clears the magazine with a bit to spare. Appreciate all the help!
My understanding is that the Barnes ammunition is being produced by Remington. Same company owns both...That being said I would assume it's Remington brass.
Alaska the length of the DeepCurls is: 1.21" OAL
Load development was about 1.6" with the additional loads I tested this week...ended up loading 5 new loads this evening and pushed the OAL out to 3.65"...we'll see how that changes things.
Tried the 200 grain Accubonds with RL 25 and Retumbo to no avail...only tried 4 loads before resorting back to the 180's. I have one of the new Redfield's atop this .300 and its Accurange reticle is set for the 180's...Tried the 200 grainers due to all the great comments about them on this...
Agreed. I had hoped to have used the 180 PT as my go-to bullet for this rifle. Here are the results from my load development with it thus far. I now need to try the 96.0 grain load of H-1000 with the PT as well.
I really like the DeepCurl's design, with no exposed lead tip. The PT and...
After last weekend's bear hunt, I realized the need for a tougher bullet in the .300 RUM. I've been playing around with some loads for some time now, but haven't found anything other than the 180 grain Sierra BTSP that would shoot under MOA.
This week I received an order of 180 grain Speer...
