    Which Brake ?

There is a guy on a site that myself and a few others on here are members of, called Specialty pistols. He has done two brakes for me on Contender barrels and they were awesome. He can do any design you like. He is in Idaho. He can only do rifle barrels up to 22" long, but he charges $60 and...

    Alaska rifle choice

I would suggest that he use caution in choosing a long magnum action if he hunts now with a .308. Short stroking a gun on a big bear might cause a heart attack. How about a .325 WSM with a 200 grain Partition? I am just suggesting that caliber because it is a short action and quite powerful...

    Shooter's Pro Shop

I love the site. I check it just about daily. I wish there were more varieties available, but realize it is not always possible. I also wish shipping was a bit cheaper. Maybe use flat rate boxes or something?? It just seems like a lot to pay $14.80 shipping on a $10 bag of bullets. I will say...

    Contender G2 vs Encore

The G2 is about a pound lighter than the Encore. The Encore will accept higher pressure loads than the G2. I own both and love both. They are different but similar. If you plan on .223 only, go with the G2. If you want to get some bigger stuff (.30-06 type, etc.) go with the Encore.

Need some help figuring this one out

Well my buddy went to the range solo with a couple things to try and found that his gun went from shooting 5-6" groups to shooting 1"-1.5" groups by putting about a 1/8" thick piece of cardstock under the barrel. Now he needs to make it permanent. I told him I thought he should use bedding...

Need some help figuring this one out

The local gunsmith suggested applying more pressure on the barrel from the stock's forend. I know my friend doesn't want to send his gun back because our season opens in 1 month. This may be his only good option though. Thanks for all of your help, it is much appreciated. Rob

Need some help figuring this one out

Ok, so I forgot to mention that we have tried Varget as well. Same results. I free floated his barrel before we even shot the gun. The stock was contacting in a few places when the gun was new. I tried folding a thick cleaning patch in half, and lifting on the barrel, and sliding it under at...

Need some help figuring this one out

I have been helping a buddy reload for his Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .338 Federal. The gun is stainless with a synthetic stock. He and I are both unable to get groups under 3 inches or so, and some were over 5" at 100 yds. Here is a history of the gun and loads tried. -The gun has never been fed...

    McCain chooses VP candidate

I just saw that McCain chose Sara Palin (Governor of Alaska) as his running mate. She is apparently quite conservative, a lifetime NRA member, and has many other attributes that make her a favor to sportsmen and gun owners. Looks good for us. I admit, I do not know much about her at all, but it...

270 win with 150 grain bst

I have not used Reloader 22 in mine, but found that H4350 worked well with 52.0 grains. I did try Reloader 19 in it as well, but found it wasn't as accurate as the H4350.

    Loc-tite delima......

Can you take the trigger group out and soak it in acetone? I am very ignorant with Remington's in general, but we used to soak our target rifle (anschutz, walther, and WInchester) triggers in rubbing alcohol to keep them clean. Just an idea. Rob

    recommendations for rings and bases

I guess I knew that was coming. That is the setup I have on my .270 A bolt. I like the Talley setup as well. I don't enough about metal to say whether I want aluminum Talley 1 piece mounts and rings, or two piece steel dual dovetails.

    Range trip....question

I have been trying to convince him to get the Accubonds, but the 210 grain Partition's that he is using are seconds. We are both waiting for more Accubond seconds as I need them in 8mm as well. H4350 and H4831 are much too slow for the .338 federal. He has tried Varget and H4895 so far. He...

    recommendations for rings and bases

I had a Leupold QR ring come loose yesterday at the range on my .325 WSM. I tighten the levers as much as I can by hand, and it still came loose. I have had Leupold replace 5 of these bases for my Contenders that you could spin all the way around, and I have decided that they are great bases...
