Actually had a few jump over a ledge or to the side and land on their sides, never to regain their feet again...does that count? ;)
I do like it when an animals travels 2 or 3 feet...straight down!
There's a reason that the FTW Ranch (Home of the SAAM Training Centre in Texas) only has ranges and teaches shooting out to 700 yards max...wind gets to be the biggest issue, and then there is the added variable of elevation when facing uphill/downhill shots...including thermals, etc.
No one has...
I forgot to mention that I had the Talley 1" mediums in matte in my drawer, and mounted the scope so I could get out and shoot it. I have ordered a set of 1" Lows that are getting Cerakoted in Titanium to match better and lower the scope on the Browning 270 WSM pictured above. Should provide a...
While Jeeps have terrible BCs, and penetration can be lacking, there is no denying the frontal area impact energy departed on the game animal!
Glad you're OK and damage was fairly minimal to your vehicle.
Great cartridge!
And a ballistic twin to the 375 H&H AI.
Was seriously considering these when the 376 Steyr came out, and it was different enough and seemed more practical for North American game, that I went this route with my 375 larger than my trusty ol' 375 Win.
My first question would not be about what rifle, caliber, cartridge or scope to be looking at for elk hunting in Wyoming...
I would be asking the outfitter why shots out to 600 yards are required?
A good outfitter will get you to within reasonable shooting distances (300 yards or less) where any...
If I recall correctly, the 222 Rem is the 30-06 scaled down...but someone can correct me if I am wrong...I seem to recall it being a popular varmint cartridge from back in the day that they scaled the '06 down to.
Not sure if anyone scaled up from one cartridge to another...50 BMG??
Here's the LH Browning X Bolt All Weather in 270 WSM if you like the grey laminate!
And the LH Browning X Bolt All Weather in 6.5 Creedmoor is identical except the Leupold scope is matte black instead of Gunmetal Gray
II did get back to the range today to finish testing factory ammo in the 338 Federal and to sight in the 270 WSM, and try out the 25-35.
First, in the 338 Federal:
The Federal 185 gr TSX @ 2700 fps produced 0.821" @ 100 yards: and'
The Federal 200 gr Trophy Copper @ 2579 fps produced 0.457" @...
Gerry,
While it did not come from our mutual friend from the flatlands, it did come from another resident of the Canadian land of sage and jackrabbits.
I'll keep you in mind and give you first right of refusal should I ever feel the need to part with this rifle.
I forgot to ask where you moved...
Here are the pics of the rifles as promised above:
LH CZ 527 American 204 Ruger:
Ruger No.1S 218 Bee:
Ruger No.1A 257 Roberts:
Winchester Model 94 Saddle Ring Carbine 25-35 Win:
Tiny groups and very little recoil with the 204 Ruger...what I remembered from my first rifle in this cartridge (Rem 700 VSSF)! It is nice to have it in a LH rifle!
Fun to be able to watch the holes appear in the paper at 100 yards!
Not sure if the rifle is just slow, and will improve...
Congrats!
Nothing easy about packing a moose a mile out of the bush; been there, done that!
Yes, smaller bulls are better eating...and they usually weigh less than a big bull, which is a plus when packing!
As we age, we become smarter hunters!;)
Not sure if the meat tastes better when shot with...
Made it out to the range today with 6 rifles.
Tested 15 different factory loads in those rifles, using my new Garmin chronograph. (So simple to use!)
Was a little later than I planned by the time I got to the range, so I shot until last light.
Was +6 when I got there, and +2 by the time I was...
Well, I got to use my Garmin for the first time today.
Was really simple to set up and use!
Was a little later than I planned on getting to the range today, and shot until last light. No issues with using it in low light conditions.
Shot 15 different factory loads in 6 rifles today, as noted in...
I also found out today that Alliant powders will no longer be shipped to Canada...apparently because they won't add a French label on their product!
Stupid rule by our government to add to their list of things to limit Canadians from enjoying the shooting sports!:poop:
Read the recent Custom Crafted Cartridges article in Shooting Times' magazine about Federal's Custom Shop ammunition.
I called them to discuss potential custom ammo for a few rifles I have; the 270 WSM, 280 Rem, 7MM STW, and 338 Federal. Their ammunition isn't cheap (approx. $110/box of 20)...
