To date, the 338 Federal 210 gr Nosler Partition load has accounted for a caribou in my rebarreled Winchester Model 88, and the 200 gr Uni-Cor load has accounted for moose, caribou, and stone sheep from my Sako.
It has been my experience that the 300 Wby is one of the sharpest recoiling cartridges that I have fired to date, regardless of the rifle it was chambered in.
(But then again, I have not stepped up to to 300-378 Wby so cannot compare! LOL) I'm happy sticking to my milder-mannered 300 WSM.
Glad...
While I didn't get to the range on the day I wanted to, I did eventually get there and tried some of the recently acquired Federal ammunition I have been able to find for the 338 Federal and tried out the new Garmin chronograph.
First, as reported in another thread, I love the new Garmin! So...
I had shared it in another thread previously, but will add it again here.
Makes me wish I was back there again as it was a beautiful sunny 17 degrees that day...it's -24 here today with 6" of new snow!
The 221 Fireball has always intrigued me.
I did have a Remington Classic for a short while, but sold it for another left handed project.
Would love to find a Sako 85 XS action to have a LH 221 FB in. (The pistols not being an option for us to hunt with in Canada)
Nice stag!
Wicked mass!
I ended up with an upgrade by the guide on my stag too.
I had booked for a 300-340 class stag, but did have it my budget to upgrade to a 340-360 class stag, if the right one presented itself.
I ended up shooting the second smallest stag we saw during the entire hunt. It...
Congrats on the stag!
I have had great performance on elk and moose with the 180 gr AB out of my 300 WSM, and bullets recovered have expanded at least twice their original diameter and have retained 90-95% of their original weight. Not to mention that they consistently produce 1/2" groups at 100...
We have a lot of similar terrain here in north eastern BC for elk hunting. Beautiful country ranging from open agricultural fields, mountain alpine, poplar stands and dark timber, and ravines and river valleys. Fortunately, my longest shot on an elk was at 475 yards, and I underestimated the...
Yes, it sounds like you need one too! Why should your brother have all the fun? ;)
I have 3 older LH X Bolts, none with muzzle brakes, and they are all very nice to shoot! (6.5 CM All Weather, 6.5 PRC Hunter and 270 WSM All Weather) All are capable of 1/2 MOA groups or better with factory...
Sorry if you took my response wrong or as a personal attack. That was not my intention. My sincere apologies.
My questions for you were to better understand your experience and abilities, as I do not know you. (And I did not see your post previous to the one I responded to which stated this...
You would have to go their website to check on the size of their 700 yard target to answer that question.
And as they state, no one has hit it with their first, cold bore shot. Their claim, not mine. And they have a great long range shooting school on site.
Can you hit the target you shoot at...
In my younger days, I steered clear of shotguns, other than a single shot for grouse and hares, as my friends spent big dollars n their O/Us and sporting clays, and I didn't have the spare funds to do so...I was already spending enough on my hunting rifles and fly fishing gear. (My current...
Sorry, I haven't heard from our favourite Nosler ladies in awhile...
Last time I chatted with Cheyenne, her and her husband were doing well and keeping busy living the northern lifestyle.
I hope April is still doing well and living the good life sailing around warm, blue waters!
Congrats on the hunt! What a gift!
While I haven't had a chance to hunt pheasants specifically, I did try a couple of stalks on them with the compound bow while I was hunting antelope in E Alberta. Didn't get a shot opportunity...
I have since acquired ammo for pheasant for the 28 ga. and it is...
As kids on my grandparents farm, Grandpa practiced the same drill every fall for ammo...doling out the ammo initially based on chores we had performed to earn ammo over the summer, and replacing the ammo spent, as earned with small game brought home from each hunt (grouse and snowshoe hares)...
My 7MM STW has a 24" and produces 3222 fps with the Federal Premium 160 gr AccuBond ammunition. I have no pressure signs in my rifle or the fired brass.
Typically 3200 fps with a 160 gr bullet requires a 26" barrel for the 7mm RUM.
Some barrels are just faster than others!
I can tell you that...
