With Big Game powder using Nosler Ballistic Tips in a couple of my 30-06's I got the following:
150gr 58.0grs BG 3100FPS 24" barrel
168gr 55.5grs BG 2980fps 24" barrel 3040fps 28" barrel
180gr 54.5grs BG 2910fps 24" barrel 2980fps 28" barrel
I ran all fifty on a rifle and shot this group at 200yds after.I just need to shoot it some more to get a good feel on how well it shoots.I was surprised, the recoil wasn't bad at all on the 338 Win Mag.The thin red pad was kinda hard, but it didn't bother me at all.
I've used Tubb's bullets on a few rifles before with great results.I wonder if bore coating would help.I shot the rifle sixteen times.Apparently all the copper had been removed when I received it.You can tell the rough spots are eating the copper. The previous pictures didn't show any,but now it...
I just picked up a 1989 Ruger 77 tang safety 338 Win Mag the other day.I made up a few loads for it to kinda get a feel for the rifle.I loaded up some 200gr Accubonds for the test loads. The rifle looked almost brand new, trigger was horrible at around 6-7lbs,which I adjusted down to around 3lbs...
A 30-06 can push a like weight bullet about as fast as a 7mag.I shoot both and like both. The 7mag shoots a little flatter, but I think the 30-06 really hits just as hard and seems to make a little bigger wound channel. So the the answer to your question is the 30-06 better than the 280,I'd say yes...
I bought my 39A in 1975 for $125.It always shot well with open sights.I never knew just how accurate it really was until I scoped it about ten years ago.Wow!!! Instead of shooting at 1" bulls,I was shooting at the bullet hole and hitting it many times at 50yds.Those Marlins are awesome...
I got an email from Western Powders that certain lots of Accurate 4064,2495 and 4350 are being recalled. It just so happens I have some of those on the recall list and have taken pictures of the container lot numbers and sent them to the company. Here is the link. http://www.accuratepowder.com/
I've been impressed with my JES rebore 338-06.It shoot a 200gr Nosler Accubond or Silver Ballistic Tip a tad over 2800fps.I make my brass using once-fired 30-06 brass with one trip through the resizing die.It is very inexpensive and easy to obtain too.
