I would like to give thanks and kudos to MagnetoSpeed. I was affected by the recent , historic floods in LA in March where my workshop was flooded and inundated with 2 feet of water. Thankfully my house did not flood but 3 more inches and it would have. Anyway, I had received the new...
I save my 243 chrome plated cases for resizing to 260. That way they stick out like a sore thumb. Plus I usually load with Ballistic Tips so that gives me another indication that it is 260, not 243.
Not sure how Jimbeaux82 does it, but those are screamin' velocities that he posted.
My philosophy with all of the calibers I load (over 25) is to get book velocity for each load so if I need to shoot factory my zero's are pretty close. I never try to exceed listed velocity with each cartridge...
I have loaded and hunted with a 7mm Wea Mag for over 30 years now with great success. Primarily for whitetails but have killed 3 Nilgai as well. Bullets I have used successfully are 150 gr Ballistic Tips and Partitions, 162 gr Hornady SST's, 160 gr Accubonds. Here are the best loads that I...
I shoot 58.0 grs H4350 with 180 gr NP's at 2735 fps in my Win Mod 70 XTR FWT 22" barrel, .75" 3 shot groups. Stopped trying to find anything better after that.
Preacher,
the 180 gr Nosler Part , H4350 load I recommended is a true 1/2 moa load in my rifle, so if it is accuracy you want, that is the one I would go with. The 150 gr Ballistic Tip, IMR 4895 load is MOA.
Now for your guys commenting on boudin, a typical Cajuns brunch or lunch is 2-3 links...
Preacher,
I have this exact same rifle in 30/06 , around 1986-87 vintage, and it really is a shooter. My 2 best loads for it are rather old school but never the less very effective.
150 gr NBT, 51.0 grs IMR 4895, 3.330" OAL, CCI 200, 2850 fps
180 gr NP, 58.0 grs H4350, 3.315" OAL, CCI 200...
I load 44.5 grs H4350 with a 120 gr NBT for 2750 fps from a 20" barrel achieving MOA. However, this is close to a full power load and you might drop 2-3 grains powder as a starting load for your daughter
I have been using BT's since they came out around 1985. I have killed countless white tails with them and even a few large African animals. I have been completely satisfied with them for white tail hunting. Currently loading about 9 different calibers with them and all shoot very well. If a...
I see that you have not listed a velocity so I guess you may not have a chronograph. Just for comparison, I get 2650 fps using 57.0 grs H4350 with a 180 gr Partition, 22" barrel Win Mod 70 XTR Featherweight, and it shoots lights out as well. You are probably moving around 2500-2550 fps with your...
I usually work up my loads in the summer Louisiana heat (90-100 F). That way I know when hunting in cooler weather I should be GTG. I have chrono'd some but not all in cooler weather and usually see less than 50 fps difference (slower) which I don't worry about.
