All I remember reading about the early promotion of the 7mm08 was a Layne Simpson article on it being Jim Dandy on the Iron Chickens/Rams for Silouhette shooting. Then he wrote about how its high BC bullets made it a good longer range deer rifle, etc. Back then, I just wanted one of the Mod 700...
The rifle hated R16 with the 210TTSX! Boo, Hiss! I have my 175HH/3031 load, and a good one with the 200 NBT and Varget , but I wanted to use this 210 TTSX as my "heavy", for now. I went with the Lapua cases, CCI 250 and Big Game. I started at 58 and went slowly up to 62. 61-62 were slightly...
I finally got my 7x57 from my smith, yeah? It started out as a like new Mod 70 Fwt push feed .270 Donor and I had a #2 Shilen 9" twist SS pillar bedded, floated, Rifle Basix Trigger. I put my Leupold 3.5x10 on it and went to the range. I zeroed it with some factory equiv 175 RN loads in new R-P...
Mod 78s are solid, early Remington well done rifles! I've a few made into semi-customs for decades! In my Mod 700 Classic ( 35 W.A.I.) I usedthe top loads listed in barnes #1 Load manual; 53.5 br /2015/250 X and later the 58/H322/200X. I got outstanding speeds with both ( and top pressure, but...
It started out 24 deg today, I was only there an hour and a half, nice! I was bundled up of course, so comfortable. I like testing/working up loads when its cold, i.e. like when I usually get to hunt. (Late Season antlerless, deer/elk) I had already tried the Nosler 210 with Big Game, twice, one...
Gosh! 2600 with R17 (of course, IF the rifle/brass like it) but I was surprised to see so many powders give a sold 2500fps! After I get my present bullets set up, I'l have to try some. Makes more sense than the 282 Hammer, and the old 250 GS. Thank you Doc! I appreciate the you taking the time...
Great catch! My BIL shot the 150 Sierra BT in his Mod 742/308 and it was a tack driver ( a Mod 742 to be cherished!) , super killer on SE Texas WT/Hogs. He got a cheap deal for a 788 in 6mm Remington. Now, everyone in my part of that county loved the 6mm/100 corlokt BUT, they wanted it in the...
Looking for data in a 24" barrel, Lapua cases, 3.33" COAL. at 64K please. Some have used this as a close range load in this round as a thumper. I like the fact they come 100 to a box and are made to be accurate. If I never killed anything with them, at least I'd have fun shooting rocks in the...
I shot many a 150 SB back then with Mod 77 280 and later in a 7mm Rem Mag, but it worked out that I actually hunted with the 150 Partition. I shot more of the 139 Hornady SP in that 280, but I was given the 7mm Mag for Christmas, so I "had" to use it, lol. I eventually worked up in the mag a...
Thanks guys! I am going to try some R16 with the 210 TTSX, was thinking of Varget ( I got such great results with it and the 200NBT at 56gr) for the 210 NP. I used Winchester cases for the NBT load, but will use the Lapua with the NP. I sure enjoyed the 340Wby I took to S.A./Namibia for the...
I've used the 210 TTSX "forerunner", the Barnes 210 XBT back in '98, it was in the 340 Wby. I got an honest 3200 up here. I took a zebra, blesbuk, Impala and a big Namibian Gemsbuk, easy cheezy. The rifle itself was just too light and it blew out two scopes. In late '99, I had that same rifle...
Well, update; 2023 has sucked big time, ha! Skipping the surgeries, health scare's, etc. : Sold the ugly Savage, bought a new Ruger All Weather, 338WM but it felt too heavy between my hands, a tad "clubby". I sold it and two nice Glocks locally and bought a like new Wby ULwt 338-06 A Square...
My 338-06 does right at 100fps slower with that same 175 HH! Our rifles are twins! ha I use 58gr IMR 3031 ( I would never have thought it!) and it clusters them too. I really like the looks of that 338 RPM too. Good show old chap!
What make is your 300 in Pard? Long action/longthroat? Factory or handloads? I've shot a wad of game in my short life, and the majority were shot with 300WM and the Barnes 180 XBT. 165/168s work fine, but guaranteed shoulder poppers start at 180! ha Have a ball Pard!
I shot the 175 HH over 58gr /IMR 3031 seated to 3.26" (top groove) with rifle backed off to 50 "pds of torque. Went into a nice, clover leaf a tad less than 3/4" for 3. Choice Recipe for that bullet. In new Winchester cases, 200 NBT, I worked up to 56 gr/Varget/Fed LR , nice tiny group...
