I'd like to help, but I'm not really sure exactly what you are looking for.
For your firearms question, I think you will get plenty of opinions here, and I would give them due diligence. I don't know if I can answer your question, but I can point you at some resources -

Well, my tongue in cheek answer is to buy one of each. Seriously, though, if you can go hands-on with both, I would look at fit and finish to see if there is a quality difference to keep up with the price. Personally, I am skeptical, but you may find the Colt is $300 better quality than the...
I have seen issues with state parks in some places (looking at you Virginia and Maryland), especially in places where the parks back up to national forest/ park lands. No hunting is allowed in the parks, there is plentiful garbage, and typically some good places to get away from people. So...
Thought I would just drop a quick report on a new R92 I picked up the other day (sorry, no pics). So, I have the Rossi R92 16 inch stainless in 44 Mag. I shot about 40 rounds through it today, all commercial stuff, just to see how it was and if it would shoot. All shooting except one group...
You are basically describing how I missed a broadside buck at close range five (5, yes, four plus one) times with a 44 mag revolver. Because I changed loads and didn't actually re-sight.
Not saying you will make my admittedly boneheaded mistake, but... I suggest if you want to do this, you...
Okay, I know I said it would probably be the 35 Whelen, but I literally just picked up a new R92 in 44 mag, so I think I need to at least take it out and try to harvest something with it.
While I will almost certainly go with the Whelen, I have a hankering for having a poke at a deer with a 44 mag. Wife will probably use her new 243. Also itching to use a 10mm, but I'm a little worried that I'd end up with a runner that would end up off the property.
That is some great info, and some excellent shooting - doubt I could match those groups. 180 grains at ~2900 fps is nothing to sneeze at and should result in very efficient killing of elk at and well past your 200 zero.
I concur. I suppose I look at it like this: You trade a very small chance of drawing a tag for going out and having a very small chance of harvesting a bison. I think waiting to draw a tag would be the more cost effective option, since you only pay the tag fee once. But going the OTC route...
My understanding, yes.
Here is a video with some more details on the hunt: Nine Mile Bison. Here is an article from last year by the Salt Lake Trib (terrible publication) giving some of the background and stating that non residents can buy OTC. However, the big game field guide does not...
Never seen a lion in the wild. Have known one guy who was bow hunting for elk that saw lion prints on top of his boot prints as he was coming back on day. He wasn't sure if it was stalking him, or just headed the same way, but he never bow hunted that area again.
