    Dumb and Dangerous Thing

About 34. Good hits on the primers. I believe a couple others here nailed it…

This must be the answer. Thanks all.

    Modified Cases

Yes. 5/16-36 tap and the proper drill. Getting it perfectly centered to the gnats behind isn’t critical. A good bit is going to follow the primer hole.

    Partitions Available

I saw a fresh box of .264 Partitions 140gr at Sportmans. Seemed like $70 per 50. Dang.

    Dumb and Dangerous Thing

Thank you BruceP. I always heard and assumed it was an automatic stuck bullet, maybe it is with a pistol. Someone else mentioned neck tension. I suspect plenty considering I’m just using standard FL dies and no neck turning. Thanks all.

    Dumb and Dangerous Thing

My old man loaded Accurate 7 instead of Reloder 7 in a 45/70 Marlin Guide. It split the receiver in two along the holes for the scope mounts and sent the barrel forward about 10 feet. Is was not a loud explosion, just a very soft pop. I was there. It did absolutely nothing to him. Talk...

    Dumb and Dangerous Thing

When I pulled the bullets in the cases I tried to fire, the bases of the bullets were smoky. The remaining 2 that I did not try to fire were clean. That tells me that the primers did ignite. But no report and no bullet movement. None. I decapped the 2 live primers. In retrospect I should...

    Dumb and Dangerous Thing

I’m with you fellas. I’ve fire formed, with toilet paper and pistol powder, and popped primers in empty cases. They always make a sharp report. Hence my confusion. I certainly would have checked the bore had the bullet not still been in the case. It was obvious something wasn’t right. I...

    Dumb and Dangerous Thing

Today I was testing a load in my 6x45. First round, click. Wait 30 seconds, eject. Solid hit on the primer. Figured I finally made a dud. Ejected, bullet still in the case, just a dented primer. Second round, click. Same. What the heck? Third round, click. OK, that’s it. Moved to a...

    Tubb’s FinalFinish

Always been skeptical of sending lapping compound down the bore at high pressure. The results seem to speak for themselves in this post however. Thanks for the reports.

    What you got for Christmas?

Some gloves, a new game cleaning table, and finished up the snowplowing I didn’t get done the day before. Then watched the Broncos get crushed.

I got some impressive velocity out of heavy bullets in 30-06 with it.

Winchester 70 push feed ejection issue

Just to close this out for someone who might hit on this from a search. Replaced the extractor, extractor plunger, and spring. Significant wear on the extractor when the 2 compared. Solved the problem. I am at a loss as to how the extractor could be so worn and not be a smooth bore, yet it...

Custom Rifle Shop - Looking for Any Firsthand Info (Ah, shoot, hearsay is always fun, too)

A simple switch barrel is a way to do what you want. Get a receiver with an integral recoil lug or have it pinned if it’s not. A very simple barrel vice and an action wrench and you’re set. We used to switch barrels all the time at benchrest matches. I have several sporting rifles setup the...

Randy Selby has made just about as many critics as customers. I’d suggest additional research. Some swear by him, others at him.

Winchester 70 push feed ejection issue

Friend of mine brought this rifle by with a problem. It feeds and extracts fine, but the extractor lets go of the case head before the case gets to the ejection port, dropping the case before it goes out. I’ve researched some and everything points to replacing the extractor and extractor...
