I think that my gun is throated for a 175 grain partition to 3.565. Most of my stuff is loaded to 3.4 something which is where I found the best accuracy. One of my best loads out of my 24 inch barrel is that 120 grain barnes in a federal case with a federal large rifle match magnum primer...
Might not be what your looking for but I slightly prefer the 40 grain hornady v max in my .222.
21.5 reloader 7 neck sized ww case cci small rifle primer. .35 groups from a factory adl
20.6-21.5 imr 4198 40 grain v max shoots as well as the reloader 7 however I think that reloader 7 meters...
I also have a 7mm mashburn. Mine is an old reamed out Remington 700 adl. It is even bedded and floated in the factory Remington stock.
Favorite loads are...
norma mrp
120 tsx 3500 fps
140 tsx 3320
150 swift scirroco 3180
imr 7828
150 ballistic tip 3220
My rifle hasn't given me the screaming...
I was wondering how a 300 grain bullet would work in the new savage muzzleloader that uses smokeless powder. 300 grainers can be fired 2400 fps. Do you think that the 300 grainer would hold up?
I shoot deer with a 7mm mag and that bullet loaded to 3200. I think that this bullet is tougher than most people would give it credit. At 280 speeds I wouldn't hesitate to punch a hole in the side of an elks ribs with it. That being said I have never shot an elk only watched them mill around...
also let me know how the 50 grain x works for you. I haven't shot that one. I did shoot the 53 grain x and I had good accuracy in 1 barrel and not so good accuracy in the other.
don't overlook h335 and the 45 grainer. I am actually getting the velocities out of that load that quick load says you can get. Point of impact is the same as my 40 v max loads and they both shoot around half an inch. the 40 v max gets fed 21.5 grains reloader 7. In the 45 grain x I'm running...
the above group was fired with varget, hornady cases, winchester primers and 168 grain ball tip. its a stiff load of 45 grains of varget at about 2750 fps.
Thanks for posting the target pic up for me. The above group was shot with 24 grains of varget which hodgdon says is okay with a 63 grain sierra. The total group size is about an inch and a quarter. While not great by 222 standards I feel that it is sufficient to reach the 200 yards that I can...
I did shoot the 222 with the 64 grainer today. Groups with 748 ran between 13 inches and 2.5 inches. My one group with 24 grains of varget put 4 into 1.25 inches with the best 3 into .8. Take those results as you may. I do plan to try h335 and maybe some aa 2520. Any idea how aa2520 or aa2015 br...
I started a thread in the reloading section on what powders could get us close. I believe that 2950 was all that quick load said that we could get. The hodgdon website suggests that cfe 223 can come really close to 3000 fps with the 63 grain sierra. They also run 24 grains of varget and that...
I need to work with them a bit more. My 24 inch 700 doesn't really like to run them at 3000 fps. At around 3000 fps I was running into slightly cratered primers. 2915 seemed to be about all I could get with 748.
Here is a 158 grain xtp that penetrated into 4 milk jugs. Velocity from a snub was around 1050. Expansion is .55 inches and retained weight it 154 grains. To be honest I believe that this bullet is the most accurate .357 diameter bullet that I have tried. Several groups from a 6 inch 586 have...
at this point my concern is that the bullets that I fired out of the 222 weren't mushroomed evenly. It looks like they almost hit the jug sideways like they weren't completely stabilized. Tomorrow I think that I will shoot the ones that I made up and see exactly whats going on.
I loaded some of these up in my .222 today. These were loaded from 2600-2840. I shot them into milk jugs and they both got 4 jugs. The one at 2600 was found in the four jug and the one at 2840 was found laying on my table between the 4th and 5th jug. Apparently it had enough power left to dent...
