I'm currently trying to get my sps 308 to shoot really well. I got it down to .8 with 165 ballistic tips and varget. I'm now messing around with the 168 grain ballistic tips and have it down to around an inch with reloader 15.

Whats your pic for the best powder for the 165s and 168s. I'd like to stay in the 2600 to 2800 fps range with the 165 weight class.

I'd also be interested to know what your shooting with the 150 grain bullets. I have 150 Partition 150 hornady and 150 ballistic tip.

I've had excellent results with 150 grain bullets over H BL-c2, IMR 4320 and IMR 4064. I would suspect Viht N140, Varget and RL15 would work equally well as they are all NATO spec powders for 147-150 grain bullets that have undergone exhaustive testing to be ideal for this bullet weight in the .308.

My .308 is a Savage 99E and so sometimes loads that shoot well in a rear-locking lever gun wont shoot as tight in bolt action rifles and vice-versa. Still that load of 45 grains of 4064 with 150 grain Sierra Pro-Hunters has served me well and shoots quite well in my lever gun.

I shoot IMR 4895 with (46 grs) 125 and (44 grs) 150 gr bullets in my 308 Win. Super accurate. I have a tight chambered tight neck Heart barrel Rem 700.

With Varget & RL-15, coupled with those high quality 165's, you're already using my preferred components. At this point it's just fine tuning the load, the rifle and the shooting technique to get tighter.

Perhaps mess with the seating depth a bit?

Congrats on a nice shooting load already!

H380 used to be my go to powder in the 308 but I have since switched to Varget.
Guy nailed it. Play w the seating depth.

44gn of W-748 in the 165 Hornady Spire Point Boat Tail and the 168 Sierra Match King were the best loads. Yes, play with the seating depth.

Varget and RL-15 around 43 grains. May overall length is shorter than the manuals show for AOL, by .10 if I remember. Groups hover between high. 2's and .4's with 168gr. CC and SMK.

That looks pretty good from this distance.

Heck yeah.. Looks really good from here.

I am with all the others, RL15 and 165's worked really well in my last 308.

the above group was fired with varget, hornady cases, winchester primers and 168 grain ball tip. its a stiff load of 45 grains of varget at about 2750 fps.

Nice.

My 600 yard match load for years was the 168 Nosler Custom Competition bullet, 45 gr Varget, Federal 210 match primers in lightly prepped Winchester cases. Shot real well all the way out at 600 yards.

When it came time to hunt, it didn't take much more than a swap to the 165 gr Ballistic Tip...

Congrats on that fine group!

Guy

I'm loading the 155 Custom Competitions in my AR 10 with AA4064. It isn't quite as accurate as your rifle, but it was the best combo in this gun. The 140s shoot really well, but drop too much past 400 yards for my liking.

I have always favored 165 grain Partitions for my .308 and .30-06. Shown above is a 3-shot, 100 yard group of .30-06, 165 Partitions. Group size is about .187". Group is shot with .30-06, 57.5 IMR 4350, Fed 215 MM, @2860 fps.

45 grs of Varget and 168 NBT or Ncomp, or any 168 in my .308's.

My 06 I use Varget and 165NP or IMR4350.

Darn inaccurate .308's..............

Here are the best two groups I have shot in mine. 5 shot groups too. Recipe included.

Man, that'd be aggravating, Pat. Surely something can be done to make that rifle shoot better than that!
