I had kinda the same type thing with a Thompson Contender 24" barrel in 7-30 Waters. After 2 shots the barrel would be very hot. The 1st 2 shots would be 2+ inches apart and then it would shoot sum moa. It had nothing to do with a clean barrel etc... I know there can be different reasons for...
Actually this was my Dad's Marlin 30-30. I got it when he died in 62. Hunted with it for quite a few years til I needed "something bigger and better". Got the itch to hunt with it again, but not with a 7# trigger. I am still somewhat interested in something in a 35 but that will wait a while...
Well here is the next phase of the Wild West trigger story.
I got my WW trigger and it did not "drop in", as you may remember. I took it to my gun smith and ...he could not get it to fit either so he called the company. After a while they called and as they discussed the problem and the...
Well I received the trigger and it doesn't fit in my pre-64 Marlin. Took it to the gun smith today and he is going to have to do some "fitting" to get it to work. He also told me that you can re-shape the original trigger to do the same thing and get the trigger pull down to 3#.
Hmmm. Live...
I've got a Rem SPS Tactical that I got for coyotes etc...But the Hogue stock has much to be desired.
I've been thinking of replacing it and wondered what you guys thought. I am not sure I want to put the money into a Micky stock. but don't want a heavy stock when the gun already has a hvy 20"...
Well I followed the advice of some of you and finally ordered a Wild West trigger for my Pre-64 Marlin lever.
It actually should be here tomorrow. But I figured I'd take the the Marlin apart to clean it up etc.. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the original trigger was a one piece instead...
I've usually heard that book velocities typically are high for the given loads. And my very limited experience with the chrony would bare that out.
Though I have had very good success with 140 Accubonds and 58 gns H4831.

And here I thought I was losing it. The last couple of years I have passed on lots of does and a few bucks. I keep thinking "if it walks over there I'll shoot", or "if it puts its near front leg forward I'll shoot" etc...and when the deer have done it - I don't shoot.
I'm even thinking about...
I've been in AZ with a BIL who was hunting and I was helping glass and give hand directions while he tried to sneak for a shot. I have never hunted so hard physically or mentally. He ended up with a 6 pt but it was a tough go. All the credit in the world to you for your efforts.
