Yes this should hopefully work out fine. I have a friend that shoots whitetail deer here in Tennessee, uses 300 Bee with weatherby factory loaded 180 Ballistic Tips! He said it kills like lightning. So it should work fine at 30-06 velocities.

Ok here is the updated report on my 30-06 for whitetails this year. The 150 Partitions didn't shoot worth a darn using different powders etc. just wasn't there. BUT......the 180 Ballistic Tip won out!!

Scotty,
Great write up and congrats to you all on your success. My nephews that I was to hunt with this year, but didn't go, had two Elk down in 1.5 hrs first morning in Colorado!
Must be the year for Elk hunting 8)

I know some of you may think I'm crazy and have lost my marbles but............ After re-thinking the meat damage deal I had posted, I remembered at one time I shot 150 bullets in my 30-06 and actually found some 150 Partition loads from a few years back. These clocked 2900-2950 using 748...
Bryce,
I hear you buddy! Lived in Colorado for 10-years before moving to Tennessee. It took awhile to get used to the Deer size here too compared to seeing Mule Deer. Yes the 25-06 should be plenty in Texas. Thanks for the reply and best wishes this year hunting.
Don
Bryce,
I hunt on a leased property here. We QDM the lease. Bucks have to be 3.5 yrs old with 8-points and 16" outside spread, that's the goal. Being said, the buck I shoot here are 150-160 dressed with the doe in the 90-120 lb. class. The 30-06 is not to much gun here. I used 180's in...
Thanks to all for the replies and input. Hoping to finally get to the range this week as the temps have cooled off from the 90's to the low 80's. I put a new scope on the 30-06 this past spring so got to get it on target before trying the loads out.
I will be shooting the 180 BT with annealed...
Great story write up and congrats on the shot and getting your Moose!! Got to love the old 30-06 its still doing the job these days!! You can't argue with the 165 Partitions performance either!
Don
Polaris,
I do hand load. My current 165 BT is trucking along at 2830 fps and it really anchors deer when I get all ribs. As stated before, encountering heavier bone destroys lots of edible meat!
You have a valid point to slow the load down, something I have given thought. But I don't mind...
tackdriver,
I hear you. I love the Ballistic tip. My experience with it has been good. Using the 165 version has proven what everyone has said here. Rib cage shots are the best and lethal. But I have had drastic results encountering bone, not any fault of mine, just due to deer movement before...
Thanks for the replies. I have been using the 165 BT the past 5-years. It works really well but have been wanting to get away from it due to meat damage encountering bone. Sometimes bone is unavoidable due to animal movement prior to bullet arrival etc. I have a lot of 180 AB bullets on hand and...
If you were to strictly hunt Whitetail Deer with the 30-06 and all you had to chose from was the 180 AB or the 180 Ballistic Tip, which one would you pick and why?
Don
I've taken deer with the 225 AB and Partition with my 35 Whelen. Both work equally well. IMO the Partition seems to expand faster. POI is same for both bullets at 100 yards. It just hammers deer. The only deer ever to get up after being shot with the Partition was this past season. Shot thru...
