My future huntress' first elk hunt. Her preschool was closed due to inclement weather so we went elk hunting. This was on a damage tag on our farm. 125 yards with my Supergrade .270 and 130 Grain Ballistic Tips over 60 grains of H4831SC at around 3,050 fps. She was a trooper and helped me...
This sounds awesome. Didn't realize you could go this route to make an Ackley out of a short action. Sounds like a shooter too. I originally was fire forming with H4350, had really good luck with it. My gunsmith just threaded a Tikka T3 barrel and said it was the truest factory barrel he'd ever...
Looking back at one of my first groups with it; the first group with bergers was .22" as well. Hopefully it stays this good.

The only game I have ever seen taken with a VLD was a huge cow elk taken with a 105 Grain Berger VLD Hunting out of a 6MM Remington Ackley Improved. The elk didn't even go 5 feet, just stood there for a second and tipped over. The terminal performance of that little bullet was really impressive...
Nosler Brass
CCI Br2 Primers
Varget Powder
3.15" COAL
168 Grain Berger VLD Hunting
40 Grains of Varget was 2,541 fps on the chronograph.
Thank you so much!
Todd
My 130 grain .270 Ballistic tips must have come from the same lot because they did the same thing. Must be a bad run of bullets. Split this one from stem to sternum.
I love it! Looks about perfect to me! With H4831SC mine will do about 1/2-3/4 MOA if I do my part. Just a thought. I have taken 5 elk with a that combo and all have gone less than 10 yards at ranges from 142-411. Nothing wrong with the 270. I use 130 grain Ballistic Tips.
Well done! Beautiful...
Thanks Guy and 26NosFan. Brand new, I'll try running a couple Winchester white boxes through it. This is one of my "carry" guns and don't normally shoot +p just wanted to make sure they functioned properly. I wish I could find some Nosler defense ammo for it but can't find it anywhere. It shoots...
Recently finished a new build and my first custom rifle:
Pre-64 Action
Kreiger 9 twist, #4 Stainless Steel left it 26" after cutting off the unsupported portion
Pillar and glass bedded a Pre-64 altered stock (for now)
Vortex HS-T 6-24 x 50 mm
It turned out pretty well. I didn't have much luck...
I recently purchased Para Expert 1911 in 45 auto. I have shot approximately two boxes of ammunition through it. I recently took it to my gunsmith to have the trigger cleaned up a little. At the gunsmiths yesterday I fired two test rounds. The first test round the case was completely destroyed...
Sorry guys, I haven't posted much since last winter and the sticky for the QL must have come up since then because I have never seen it. Sorry to waste your time and to make redundant posts.
Thanks Scotty et al. Before I got this I loaded 45 to 49 grain in 1 grain increments. At 49 grains there are no pressure signs at all, think I'm ok or back it off? 49 grains should be at 60k. I don't have 17 but I'll look for some. The shots for 48 grains and 49 grains were touching so I'm...
